I've booked Toronto for August 2024. Woop.

Does anyone have any tips, tricks or must sees?

😊

Oh yes an idea of your standard food in Toronto? E.g burgers, pizza etc....

Nothing fancy 😂 not McDonalds

CN tower, Ripleys, ROM, Science museum, Niagara Falls of course and the Botanic Gardens (stunning) which are on the way to Niagara. If you can I’d suggest a trip up to the Bruce Peninsula on the Georgian Bay side for a few days, topography is stunning. If you’ve got kids with you Canada’s Wonderland is a decent theme park. There’s an island in Toronto which has rides etc and very touristy , my dd did summer work there years ago. Food is expensive and your usual North American fayre, poutine is a speciality.

Are kids involved? If so, what ages?

SouthCoastShell · 15/09/2023 16:16

We took our 2 teens there last summer. We had the best time! Ask me anything

funtimesahead100 · 15/09/2023 17:02

we booked a Blue Jay's baseball game, I think it was a family day. We didn't know the rules etc but had the best time, the kids got to go and run the bases at the end of the game.

Oooh thanks everyone! I'm so excited I literally cannot think 😂

Boys are 8 and 10.

@funtimesahead100 That sounds amazing! Was it expensive?

CN tower is an amazing experience, we have visited a couple of times, not too expensive.

I love Toronto! Was there a few months back. Jack Astors on Front St W does amazing food. It's a sports bar but full of all kinds of people. It does get very busy and you may have to queue but if you're happy to sit inside you're more likely to get a table. Loose Moose next door is also good. Food in Toronto is expensive so be prepared. Any kind of food you fancy, you'll find it there. Don't forget to check out Tim Hortons. They have different menus to the UK. Weather wise expect it to be hot in august.

I live in Toronto. Lots to see and do including the CN Tower. Try to get to a sports game - Blue Jays, Leafs or Raptors - all are great.
Try out the Path as it is amazing to see.
I always take visitors to Niagara and often shooting.
Lot's of great food, 360 at CN Tower is great. The Keg is the true Canadian experience but we have great Chinese and Fusion food too.
You have to go to Tim Horton's at least once - no need to look for them as they are everywhere.

This is such a fun age to go travelling!

Definitely do the science centre (Don Mills). Skip the CN Tower if you can. The zoo is great but huge and somewhat tiring - bring water.

Toronto island is lovely on a hot day. You can get the ferry over, which is fun. The little funfair is more for smaller kids, but they might like the roller coaster. (It's tiny) You can rent a quad bike and go all round the parkland. You can lake swim on the far side, but swimming is nicer at Cherry beach IMO, to the east of downtown.

If it's hot (likely) there are SO many good splash pads. The zoo's one is brilliant.

Most of the ravines that run down to the lake have walking/cycling trails - also good on a hot day.

Chinatown is v interesting to walk through!

And if they like Kim's Convenience, the actual store is there to gawp at 😁

I think the tickets were about $20 each but were high up as we booked last minute but it didn't really matter still had a great view/time. www.mlb.com/bluejays/tickets I think the game is called Junior Jay Sundays were they can run the bases

Toronto has some great neighbourhoods so depending on where you're staying don't be afraid to get on the subway or streetcar and explore. I used to live in Greek town ( Danforth Avenue which stretches from Broadview subway to Pape). I would highly recommend going to Greektown for dinner and gelato for dessert. There's a big china town at Spadina but a small one on the east side, south of Greek town on Gerrard.

St Lawrence market is good to check out. Also the Distillery District.

Highly recommend Pizza Libretto. They have branches on Danforth and Ossington.

If you like beer then check out Steam Whistle brewery which has a shop pretty much underneath the CN tower.

CheersToMe · 15/09/2023 23:35

Book dinner at the CN Tower. Make a reservation for an hour before sunset, so you get a revolution in daylight and another after dark.
Check, because we went pre-Covid, but it included the visit to the observation deck and there was a (considerably) cheaper for children.

Goodornot · 16/09/2023 09:12

Food is shocking in terms of expense. Add sales tax at about 18% and then you have to tip for everything even one ice cream at a kiosk I was asked to tip

Fuckingfuckssake · 22/08/2024 16:57

@Torontonoob how did it go? Are you back? We're going in October, any tips gratefully received.
