Tenerife

Hello,

We are considering going to Tenerife for a bit of winter sun at the end of February. It'd be myself, DH and our 2 DC (they'll be 3.5 and almost 2 by then). We've never been to Tenerife before, so aren't sure which area is best for families. Can anyone recommend an area? We'd be going for an AirBnB apartment rather than a hotel.

Thanks.

Costa Adeje always a favourite.

Does anyone else have any suggestions/recommendations for a family with preschool aged kids?

Do you want to be somewhere busy or quieter?

Are you hiring a car?

Costa Adeje has some great beaches.

Just beware! The canaries can be very windy with the trade winds. You might be ok in February but just do your homework.

I hadn’t even clocked you were looking at February - I would stick to the South coast at that time probably. I would also make sure you’re somewhere with a heated pool if you want to be swimming at all. The sea is usually too cold for most.

Kissmas · 13/09/2023 19:47

Depends what you want from a holiday. I would stick to an aparthotel in Tenerife though, why would you want air b&b?

costa adeje

Climate North and south of tenerife is completely different. North is in teide shadow. Recommend going south. East is windier apparently. So south-west? We went north in February and were extremely lucky with the weather, but south would have been a lot more guaranteed. I've also done fuerteventura twice in Feb and it was extremely windy. But it can really depend on the resort. It had a section that dipped down, and there it was warm, sunny, not windy, plsying in water etc. But walk up the steps to the bar and it was windy/ freezing! Really odd.

Costa Adeje or along that part of the coast anyway. You definitely don’t want the North East as the weather there is quite different - so don’t be tempted by cheap holidays there!

There are some fab hotels and apartments in Tenerife, why AirB&B?
I second Costa Adeje as a good family resort.
However you need to know what to expect weather wise in February. I have been to the Canaries in all months of the year. I love February because it's a glimpse of summer in the middle of our long dark winter, BUT if you are used to, say, Spain or Greece in July you will be disappointed.
At best it gets to mid 20s. It can be cloudy and rainy but it's unlikely to be all day or every day. It gets dark early.
You need a heated pool if you want to swim and take the sort of clothes you would take on a UK holiday in July - swinwear, t shirts and hoodies.

Adeje or Los Christianos. We privately rent an apartment in December and go between Adeje and Los Christianos and it’s lovely. We’ve never had an issue with windy weather in Tenerife, but I believe Lanzarote can be very windy

SmashingGemini · 15/09/2023 15:19

I would choose SW Gran Canaria over Tenerife. The weather is better there in February. You want Puerto Rico/Amadores area - sheltered and sunnier than other resorts.

HawdMeBack · 15/09/2023 16:54

Thanks all, we pushed it back to early March and went for Lanzarote in the end, after researching Tenerife I wasn't that keen.
