If we loved Annecy - where next? (Swimming, kayaking, cycling)

Looking for suggestions for summer 2024 (August).

We loved Annecy (stayed on a holiday park) this year for the beautiful views and all the active things we could do so easily. We cycled, canoed, hiked, swam. It was glorious. We drove in our car then went on to the coast. Perfect trip.

We don’t want to repeat the same again next year. But we did love it.

Can anyone recommend somewhere we might like? Particularly for cycling and lake activities. Our DC are still young - 9&7.

We’ve been thinking maybe ferry over to Caen or St Malo and explore that area. Or maybe fly to an island completely different - but that might get pricey with flights, accommodation and car hire.

If you’ve done a more active holiday where did you go?

Thanks!

I think Lake Garda would be ok. We did the Dordogne this year which I'd recommend. Few cycle tracks, lots of paddleboarding, kayaking on the river. Some history in the prehistoric cave art.
We're thinking Annecy this year but I'm worried it will be too busy.

Another vote for Slovenia, had a fab holiday there last year. We flew to Zagreb and then took the train to Slovenia, flights to Ljubljana are few and far between (unless you are London based).

We loved Annecy too (high five to fellow lac du solitaire campers!) and are looking at Austrian lakes and/or Lake Constance next year. Would be interested to hear any good campsite recommendations for those areas.

We had a great weekend at Lake Bled in Slovenia a few years ago but found it very hot in July, and then very thundery and rainy - a lot of campers left as there was flooding due to the heavy rainfall and we ended up going earlier than we had planned to due to the torrential rain.
