Norfolk fun for kids

Hello, we're away on a weekend break to Norfolk, Great Yarmouth this weekend. Fri-mon. We can't get into our accommodation until 4 on Friday and I don't want to waste the first day of our holiday waiting about like a lemon.

does anyone have any suggestions of anywhere we can take the kids. We're off to bewilderwood on Saturday so that's ticked. TIA

Depending on where you're coming from High Lodge Forest Centre could be on your way. It's got bike and walking trails, crazy golf, trampolines, Go Ape, archery and a massive park with the biggest slide I've ever seen! There was a gruffalo trail when we were there but that was in the holidays. Appreciate you've got a 1 year old that might not want to/can't walk, but you can hire bikes there too. We went there for 2 days out of our holiday with a 5 and 1 year old, it was brilliant. Cafe is lovely, lots of options but also space for picnics too.

Really wish we had somewhere like this closer to home!

If you want a nice sandy family friendly beach with cafe, chip shop, loos, little arcade etc I’d strongly recommend Sea Palling.
Might even see a seal or two!

Or boat trip?

One final one from me - 30 minutes from Gt Yarmouth

(I love Norfolk!)

Again it might depend on the direction you're coming from but Bewilderwood was brilliant when we went - although a long time ago.

If you’re coming past Norwich - roar dinosaur adventure

There's the Pleasure Beach and Sea Life Centre in Great Yarmouth itself. Horsey Gap just up the coast sometimes has seals you can see.
Redwings horse sanctuary is not too far from Yarmouth.
Further out there is Amazona zoo in Cromer, or Snettisham farm park in Snettisham.

Thankyou all

Banham Zoo, Thrigby wildlife park. If the weather's nice you could just spend time on Yarmouth's sandy beach.

Marthams Boat yard rent lovely Canadian canoes

For an afternoon in Gt Yarmouth, Joyland is lovely for an hour and the sealife centre is quite good, then arcades and freshly cooked donuts. The new Marina Centre pool has a water play area, slides for little ones and a couple of big slides the 8 yr old could do.

If you arrive quite early for a full day then i'd suggest Pettits, some good rides for those ages, farm, play areas, golf. You'll see the signs as you drive past Norwich to Yarmouth. Hirsty's in Hemsby is fun too, but not sure if it's still open as schools are back. If it's sunny we love Gorleston beach. Theres a nice splash pad there too which is free. Ice cream, fish and chips and see the Banksy.

Bewilderwood is the best.

Pleasurewood Hills in nearby Lowestoft isn't a bad day out. It's a little rundown compared to its heyday in the 80s & 90s but its fun for the kids.
I'll second Pettitts too. My DS6 has been going there since he was a toddler. He asks to go there every time we go to stay with my parents who live nearby!

High Lodge in Thetford Forest is always a stop for us, the kids love the play areas and seeing as you are only paying for parking, it's really good value as a lot to do.

Another vote for Roarr here - not far out of your way, loads to do whatever the weather and way cheaper on off peak weekdays too - it's dinosaur themed overall but doesn't really matter if your kids are especially into that or not!

Helpmeout124 · 12/09/2023 23:26

My dad lives in gorleston so we will be there over the weekend visiting, we've done roar on past visit it was great. ThankyoI all got your help! I won't be short of things to do

Another vote for Gorleston. The beach is gorgeous, really big and sandy so great for sandcastles. Our kids were so much happier here compared to theme park type places and it was our cheapest day out.
There is a very good 2p arcade (next to the hotel on the seafront) as well that gives out good prizes. Kids loved it

Helpmeout124 · 21/09/2023 08:03

We went to the beach on the first day, beautiful weather, bewilderwood the second day, saw family and went to the Great Yarmouth duck race on Sunday, and the marina center swimming on Monday morning before fish and chips on gorleston beach and home. Thankyou for your suggestions! 💖
