A boat trip on the Seine is a nice way to get around and see various sights along the way. Go to Chartier for lunch - very classic French style bistro that has been around for years. Food isn’t amazing (very much steak frites, moules etc.) but it’s not too expensive and it’s worth it for the building/old style waiters.

The Louvre is a must-do. Even if you don’t like art galleries, you can’t fail to be impressed by the building.
Moulin Rouge
Walk down the Champs-Élysées
Hot chocolate at Angelina
Browse in Galeries Lafayette

go to Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur. Lovely to wander round the area and a fab vantage point over Paris.

Radiatorvalves · 10/09/2023 07:33

Also…. Avoid my son who’s on a school trip 😂. They are doing the Louvre and Eiffel Tower!

If you're a fan of impressionist paintings then visit the Musee d'Orsay. The Montparnasse Tower gives you a fabulous view of Paris with the Eiffel Tower. Sainte Chapelle is stunning on a sunny day but ideally go first thing as gets very busy. The Marais is a lovely area to walk around and soak up a bit of Parisian atmosphere. The Pantheon was really interesting and you can combine it with a stroll through the Jardin du Luxembourg.

menopausalmare · 10/09/2023 21:01

A friend recently went to a fashion museum, said it was fabulous. I'll have a quick Google..

menopausalmare · 10/09/2023 21:05

.....it was the Dior museum.

Vermin · 10/09/2023 21:06

The champs elysees is actually just oclxford street but wider - would definitely not bother .have dinner one night on the Place des Vosges - chez Hugo is fun and reasonably priced (also a couple of decent breakfast places in the square. Walk there from Bastille metro and see place de la Bastille on the way, then leave via St Paul metro which is a nice walk in the other direction.
when you go to the Louvre, have a wander in the Jardins Tuileries before / after (& book your museum ticket in advance).

menopausalmare · 10/09/2023 21:06

Oh, and visit the catacombs. Tunnels lined with the bones from the cemeteries when Paris was expanded.

EmmaOvary · 10/09/2023 21:06

The Petit Palais café is beautiful, maybe a little chilly in October but still. Jardin de Luxembourg and the 6th. Place des Vosges (Paris’ oldest square, I believe) and around the Île de la cité. The Marais is a boho/student area with lots of ancient architecture. Montmartre is worth a look for the view alone, it’s a tourist trap but still has charm.

JustKen · 10/09/2023 21:08

The St Germain area is definitely the Paris stereotype. Oh, and if you have time, go to the Luxembourg Gardens!

PuppyMonkey · 10/09/2023 21:10

Rodin museum is fabulous.

bluecrayola · 10/09/2023 21:12

Musee D'Orsay over the Louvre - it's a beautiful space

Vermin · 10/09/2023 21:14

Have you watched Emily in Paris? There’s a good walk through the 6th which covers a lot of the locations - place furstemberg / rue des fosses saint jacques which is then just around the corner from the pantheon. Basically a walk around the 6th stopping at the cafes (possibly eg Flore or Les Deux Magots) is a great day.

The Montparnasse tower is brilliant, I'd go there rather than the Eiffel Tower any day for views. So much easier and quieter plus you get to view the skyline including the Eiffel Tower, rather than from it iyswim. The area immediately around the Eiffel Tower was a bit grim the last couple of times we've been there.
Also we had lunch in the Trocadero, which is close to Eiffel tower and then walked down to Les champs des mars afterwards which was really nice too.
If it's nice, and you're doing to the Louvre, St Germain, etc, strolling over pont des arts is nice. On of my fave Paris memories is a takeaway sandwich on a bridge there just looking down the river

menopausalmare · 10/09/2023 21:22

I think you need to extend your stay, op.

TeamGeriatric · 10/09/2023 21:46

Yes, definitely do the catacombs, have to book a timeslot around a month in advance. So many art museums, the Rodin, l'orangerie. The Louvre is undoubtedly fabulous, but it's huge. Have a look at the website for the Paris pass, it may be worth investing in if you plan to do a few museums.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 10/09/2023 21:49

Don’t waste your time in the queue for the Eiffel Tower, go on a Seine boat trip. I second the Montparnasse tower. When we went they had ice skating, not sure what will be in October?
Get your walking shoes on.
