Are TUI flights reliable?

I've never flown with them before as I tend not to do package holidays but they have direct flights to Mexico and I'm tempted. But everything I've read about them before seems to be quite negative. Not sure if this is just the package holidays (which this wouldn't be, just flight only) or if it extends to flights too?

Also, slightly uneasy about there not being many flights per week just in case something happens to the flight I book.

We have never had any issue with flights with them, often in packages it's not TUI flights. Maldives was BA and Mauritius was Air Mauritius. Costa Rica was TUI and fine and better location to land in.

We did flight only with tui this summer to Salzburg. Flew from Manchester. Only 1 flight per week.

I can honestly say our experience was excellent.
No delays.
Day before bag drop brilliant.
Crew on board were great - I am a nervous flyer and struggled on the way back due to some turbulence. The crew were brilliant and really looked after me.

Would definitely fly with them again and probably will next summer.

Been on many TUI flights. Only one has been late... and that was the airport rather than the airline! All the flights were delayed due to issues at security.

My parents have a TUI package this week but the flight is Easyjet.

I've flown with TUI loads (although never long haul) and it's always been fine. The odd short delay here and there but never specifically TUI's fault and delays will happen with any airline from time to time.

No issues with Tui here. Interestingly I know someone who works in Tui operations and I recently asked her if Tui overbook flights like most other airlines do. She said they do not overbook at all which at least means you are less likely to be bumped off a flight.

We travel with Tui 2-3 times a year. Never had any issues with them. Short delays when we've missed the slot (usually passengers fault rather than the airline!) but nothing to complain about.

The biggest delays we've had were all with flag carriers - BA, American Airlines and LOT.

Same here, I’ve flown with them 4 times recently, including Mexico and no issues. When we went to Mexico there were lots of flight/airport hassles at the time and TUI definitely seemed to be prioritising making sure their long haul flights were the least effected

Wow, lots of positive feedback. Was not expecting that! Thanks for all the responses.

We did a package with TUI this summer and no issues at all. Staff at check-in and cabin crew all great. Rep at the hotel friendly and helpful. It was my 5yr olds first time on a plane and the cabin crew were so friendly and engaging with him.

Close to booking my flight! I'm travelling alone and don't mind where I sit as long it's aisle seat - should I pay for seat selection? Or skip it and try my luck checking in 48 hours before departure? Or will there just be middle seats left by then?

OP posts:
Silkiebunny · 08/10/2023 11:47

It varies, generally all window seats are gone. Normally some aisle seats left if seating in 3s but best to do in advance or exactly when opens and things go very quickly.

Silkiebunny · 08/10/2023 12:00

You can log in and see what is available now if you go to seat selection. That will give a good idea.

gentlesea · 08/10/2023 19:15

Thank you, both! Think I'll just pay for seat selection and save myself the stress of wondering if I'll manage to nab the seat I want.

I've been on quite a few dream liner flights with TUI. I have had a delay of 90mins a couple of times. I doubt this is solely a TUI issue it varies delays do happen sometimes. Overall I always use TUI to book my hols and I would recommend

Leafyfriday · 11/10/2023 16:23

Flown with them loads and no problems. If you want a specific seat I would book as their flights are popular and usually full.

gotomomo · 11/10/2023 16:24

Never had issues with TUI, or rather they were amazing at dealing with any slight issues, but I've always booked as a package. Had a 2 hour delay going to Italy but they told us 8 hours beforehand there would be a short delay (due to weather conditions crew were late back the day before and there's a mandatory rest period before they can fly again) and all transfers were adjusted for the new arrival time. During covid they were very good with changes too

gotomomo · 11/10/2023 16:25

We always get the free seat allocation, no point paying extra
