I'm sooo tired and need to recharge my batteries! We want a short break some time in March, preferably in the UK. We're North West based and I would like somewhere that welcomes babies, preferably in the countryside. So that would mean Lakes, North Yorkshire, Wales etc.....Don't want to travel too far really as we have an 8 month old. Anyone been to any fab places you can recommend?

Hope you get some responses. I'm in the SW, so not best placed .. but keep bumping tomorrow, and someone will come on and give you the best piece of advice, ever

Filey, Skipton, Richmond....any North Yorkshire market town will be fab. Or Northumberland is spectacular. Can't really recommend anywhere in particular but you could rent a cottage and please yourself.

The Star at Harome is lovely but not sure on its policy on children. Does get booked up months in advance we booked 11 months before we were due and then children were hideously poorly so gave it to mother and father-in-law as very early Christmas present!

Have a look at its website:

Will think of others

looks gorgeous, possibly a bit out of my budget though

LL, you could have a look at The Telegraph online in its Paddy Burt section - reviews of BB's, guesthouses, hotels etc. We very nearly booked one in Filey after the review but ill children.....again

Low end of the budget is the travel lodge sales, we stayed at one in the lakes and it was excellent. Not very luxurious but gets you away and we have a wonderful weekend discovering the lakes.

Try Augill castle

We stayed for a weekend last year. HUGE playroom for kids. Happy to warm bottles/do a kids tea at 5ish. Have high chairs/cots/kids cutlery etc. We booked the dinner bed and breakfast package which means you eat with other round a big table whilst dd slumbered upstairs. (its just a big house, for those of you who get agitated about leaving kids alone in hotel rooms....step away from the thread )

Not v cheap, but not stupid prices and very well worth it, especially as so much is included.

We stayed in a fab s/c cottage in North Wales, called The Apple Store through Hoseasons. Lots of things to see and do in the area.

Lovely hot tub round the back, no one else there apart from the owners and its within baby monitor range.

We bought lots of expensive ready meals from M&S and relaxed watching DVDs in the evening.
