Going on a girlfriends trip to Barcelona at the end of October. Thursday to Sunday. Never been before so if you know Barcelona we would love your thoughts on our itinerary…

we’re a group of five who want to make the most of our time so happy to be busy…

Day 1

Take train from airport to Barcelona centre
Check into hotel and dump bags
Head out for an explore
Night experience at La Pedrera modernist building
Dinner

Day 2
Walk down to Plaça de Catalunya to La Rambla
Explore La Rambla and the Barri Gòtic
Visit Barcelona Cathedral
Lunch
Visit Museu d’Història de Barcelona and/ or visit Museu Picasso
Out to dinner and drinks in evening

Day 3
Visit Sagrada Familia
Walk from Sagrada Familia along a route to see some Modernista buildings from outside: Casa de les Punxes, Pedrera, Fundació Tàpies, Casa Batlló, Casa Amatller, and Palau de la Música
Go into Palau de la Música
Out to dinner and drinks in evening

Day 4
Store bags at hotel
Visit Park Guell (take picnic depending on weather?)
Back to hotel to pick up bags

TIA x

I'm just back from Barcelona and that all sounds pretty good. Don't underestimate the distance between places and that you might not fit everything in. Places like Plaça de Catalunya and La Ramblas are fine for walking through to see but really there's not much to them. Apart from crap food and expensive drink!!

The Picasso museum is a nightmare to get tickets for. I was checking daily and never did get any. The queue was huge for tickets the couple of times we walked past. The Moco museum is fantastic if you like modern art.

The walk to Parc Guell is a killer. Definitely recommend getting a taxi up.

Try and get some of the first tickets of the day for Sagrada Familia. It gets super, super busy from about lunch time.

Sounds really good - though you will be knackered!

I can recommend https://raobcn.com/ for funky tapas and a visit to https://www.elnacionalbcn.com/ when you're on your modernist tour. The free walking tours are fab - we did them with Strawberry Tours and did an evening Tapas tour, a historic one and a modernist one - not all the same weekend. Love the roof at La Pedrera. The Boqueria market is not to be missed - great place for breakfast or a spot of tapas.

We've been a few times and generally do a walking tour and then drink aperol spritzes on terraces a lot. I was there for work though last month and we went here which was a bit out of tourist centre https://canrecasens.restaurant/. It was so pretty with great food - unless you are vege. https://www.somosesencia.es/esencias/agua Also had dinner here by the beach.

RAO restaurant • Modern Catalan cuisine in Barcelona.

Raó - where fine meets casual! Restaurant located close to Plaza Catalunya, a must - visit for locally sourced creative dishes!

We enjoyed a walking tour of the old town, and visiting the Palau de la Música Catalana. Walk to Parc Guell is fine in flats/trainers.

We also went down to the esplanade and for an evening dip in the sea.

I think it sounds good.

I might possibly add some at the beach though. Its not the most amazing beach (although very sandy and great to have a cocktail on) but that its a city with a mountain, a beach, an ancient old town and Gaudi all in one.
Maybe do it and have a good lunch there on the last day ( easy to get a cab to the airport as its close) and do parc Guell by cab when you can. Its just a park with Gaudi touches rather than architectural genius like his other sites.

Great tips - thanks all. Yes we were planning to metro to Guell.

interesting to hear that about Picasso museum plump I was looking at the website and wondered if I was doing something wrong as no time slots came up…

That was the same with me. I read online that it's just really hard to get tickets unless you book really far in advance.

Yeah don't bother with Las Ramblas and Placa Catalunya - busy and not very interesting (think Leicester Square).

Parc Guell on the otherhand is definitely a must. Allow a lot of time for queueing at Sagrada Familia - especialy if you want to go up the towers.

MNetcurtains · 04/09/2023 11:22

Mercado de La Boqueria in La Rambla is a must!!! Great places to eat there as well.

Maddy70 · 04/09/2023 11:39

Pre book your entry tickets well in advance to get the time slots you want

Don't eat or drink on las ramblaa. Overpriced and mediocre

There is a fairy bar at the bottom of las ramblas opposite the wax museum that's a cool place for a drink or snack

All seems very doable.

You can get a t-casual card for the metro. So you can zip about easily

Do put your phone and money in a bum bag. The rumours about pick pockets are real

There are so other nice things that you might be able to slip in. The museum at the port has a lovely rooftop bar

A wander through citadella Park is beautiful watching the turtles in the boating lake, and watching the musicians and fitness activities going on

Enjoy.
