Hot enough for non heated pool in the Canary Islands in Easter holidays?

Hi, looking at holidays for Easter Holidays next year. Do I need to be looking for hotels with heated pools for the Canary Islands for early April, or will it be warm enough with non heated? My 10 year old will want to be in a pool a lot. Had looked at Morocco but many reviews said pools to cool to use in early April and not heated. Any advice from anyone who has been to Canary Islands in Easter holidays before would be very much appreciated.

You would definitely need a heated pool. We tried the Canary Islands at Easter several times, but it's not hot enough for us. Its definitely a good bit warmer than the UK, and each time we had several really warm days, but an unheated pool would be a bit grim!

Clymene · 01/09/2023 11:33

Heated definitely. You can usually ask to pay extra for them to turn it on if you're going to a villa.

Clymene · 01/09/2023 11:33

Sorry, saw you said hotel. Point still stands!

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 01/09/2023 11:36

Can't comment on Canary Islands but we went to Morocco Easter holiday this year and the weather was incredible and we didn't have any issue with the pools not being heated (in fact it was quite a blessing as so warm).

DustyLee123 · 01/09/2023 11:37

Pool in June was still freezing. The sea is warmer in my experience

ginforall · 01/09/2023 11:44

Thanks all, was thinking that heated would most likely to be needed. Where in Morocco did you go @Tinkeytonkoldfruit?

We went to Fuerteventura at Easter once, one pool was heated and the other that wasn't was empty, the water was so cold.

Temperatures in the day time are good though.

cherryassam · 01/09/2023 12:10

I’d definitely recommend a heated pool at Easter - I think for most people a heated pool is a good idea until end of May / June.

SingingSands · 01/09/2023 12:21

We've done Lanzarote a few times at Easter - definitely go for heated pool!

friendlycat · 01/09/2023 14:12

Yes you want a heated pool. Problem comes with finding them as it’s very common to have unheated pools in Canary Islands. Definitely don’t assume all hotels have heated pools.

BG2015 · 01/09/2023 14:18

I agree you need a heated pool, although loads of kids (mine included) were in them when we went to Lanzarote a few years ago.

KohlaParasaurus · 01/09/2023 14:24

Definitely a heated pool. The one advantage of an unheated pool at that time of year is that you'll probably get exclusive use of it.

cocksstrideintheevening · 01/09/2023 14:30

Heated pool all the way.

RosemaryDill · 01/09/2023 14:35

You really do. Especially your DC like to be in the pool all day rather than just for a swim as an adult would.
We went in April once and the DC wouldn't go in the pool as it was so cold. Ruined the holiday because that's what they had been looking forward to.

Also make sure it's properly heated not just "acclimatised ".

thinkfast · 01/09/2023 15:02

Definitely a heated pool. We went to lanzarote one Easter and had 2 days of lovely beach weather and the rest of the week we were freezing. It was windy, rainy, about 12 degrees and we hadn't brought suitable clothing. Once we'd bought some jumpers we had a lovely time mooching around the villages.

reluctantbrit · 01/09/2023 17:31

Heated pool is necessary. We went last year to Tenerife and while we had sun each day, it wasn't that hot for a cold pool being refreshing.

It also still gets fresh in the morning and evening.

Was that Alua Suites @Gingercatlover? We went there in the winter. The heated pool was ok but the others, although beautiful were far too cold to swim in.
Would recommend though we had a great few days and several people said they'd been there multiple times.

Gingercatlover · 02/09/2023 14:31

@OhamIreally no it was Barcelo in Caleta Smile

Qilin · 02/09/2023 14:40

Y£am ideally you need at least one pool that is heated.

ginforall · 03/09/2023 12:08

Thanks all, thought as much. Now will start the difficult task of finding a heated pool in either Canaries or Morocco. Will start by checking out the Fuerteventura ones mentioned above 🙂

Definitely a heated pool. We were in Lanzarote in mid-May last year and we rented a villa with a big private heated pool which was just lovely. Not expensive either. We met loads of other people who said they couldn't use their pools because they were so cold.

Went to Morocco in September about 6 years ago and although it was very hot out, I remember the pools being uncomfortably cold. We were in Marrakech and Agadir.

leccybill · 03/09/2023 14:46

We went to Lanzarote this year at Easter. The pool was heated but still a bit chilly for me but DD was happy to be in it all day with a swim top on. We had 2 days of overcast but pleasant weather, about 22° then 3 days of nice sunny weather, and 25°.
Easter is earlier next year too so something to consider.

Craycraycatbaby · 03/09/2023 17:25

You'll definitely need heated. I would book last minute though for the canaries. Having been there most years, the weather is definitely very hit and miss around that time of year. Went to Lanzarote in May and twice the weather has been so cold! So now we tend to do an Egypt/Morocco/Turkey holiday around may/June and save the canaries for September -dec as the weather is always much better!

Bananaspliff · 03/09/2023 17:34

We went to Lanzarote in early July a few years ago and the pools were absolutely bloody freezing even then! It was hot but really windy, I wonder if the wind was a factor in the water not warming up.
We are going to Tenerife for October half term and I have bought my children wetsuits in case the pools are cold.

maryd84 · 03/09/2023 20:12

Would anyone have any recommendations for a hotel in Lanzarote with a nice heated pool
