Venice or Rome in October?

For a three-day break. Never been to either. Want to walk around , see historic sites, galleries, drink coffee etc. possibly as a solo traveller so somewhere I’ll feel safe and not attract unwanted attention.

Bonus points for a central, quiet, safe and good value hotel in either city!

I'm going to Venice for 2 days Oct 26th -27th then catching our cruise around med for 12 days then we departs our ship in Rome Nov 8th. I'm hoping it will still be warm. Flying home November 9th.

@MegBusset

well I would research in the same area of Venice as best place to stay. Quiet and stunning when you want to be away from the tourist areas. It's beautiful.

Don’t have the annual leave or budget sadly! So will have to save one for another year.

@MegBusset I have the annual
leave and budget to do neither - plus a 3 yr old - I was hoping to live vicariously through you 😆 Oh for the days of no nursery fees and annual leave for grandparent visiting when I could happily bop off to Italy on a whim. 😢

Whenever I go to Venice on my own I stay here. It's very simple but clean and welcoming and they have single rooms. It's a convent (but open to everyone) so they have a midnight curfew but Venice is not a late night city anyway.

I would say Venice for a solo traveller.
It's a great mooch about city whereas Rome is more hectic and traffic etc. and just bigger!

There are good value places to eat if you look carefully.
