Tours for solo travellers...

... where you don't have to spend all your time with other people in the group! I don't want to sound like a huge misanthrope, but I have been looking into tour groups specifically for solo travellers, and they all seem to place a lot of emphasis on making friends with your fellow group members and going out for drinks with them during your free time. I have no issue with spending time with the group during sightseeing tours and meals etc, but if there's any free time I prefer to go off and do my own thing. Anyone else?

I've been in touch with a tour operator based in Tehran this morning - I'm looking at August 24 very seriously now :)

Yay! I hope it all comes to fruition. If the restrictions lessen, I'd go back in a shot.

The FCO really don't advise it...

I'm really not an experienced or confident traveller, so for me, the point of going with a group tour is to take the anxiety out of it and know that my accommodation and transfers between cities etc is taken care of. My ideal sort of thing would be an official sightseeing tour in the morning and then the afternoon free to go off on my own. I'll look out for tours that have built-in free time and which aren't specifically aimed at solo travellers, and just swallow the bitter pill of single supplements!

Single supplements give me the rage. For the Iran trip I'm looking at, it's 30%!!!!!!!
