Car seat in Tenerife

Hi everyone,
We have booked to go to Tenerife at the end of Feb, our baby will be 9 months then and wondering how we get round the car seat situation without carrying a car seat everywhere. Does anyone have experience of this and / or know of taxis have car seats upon request?
Thanks!

Hire cars have car seats readily available. You might be able to pre-book an airport transfer with a car seat (but they don’t always turn up).

Taxi’s on an adhoc basis won’t have car seats generally. Babies can sit on your lap for short journeys.

At 9mo your baby should still fit in a carry car seat that goes on a pram, unless you have a really small one. You could use that and then you don't need to carry it as you can just wheel it around. If you have one of the 75cm Maxi Cosi ones you can get something like a cheap Joie Gemm which will be compatible but still fit. Or an old style Cabriofix.

Is it just the hotel transfer or will you be using taxis a lot to get around? Most taxi/transfer companies can provide a seat on request, however this isn't generally advisable as they are often a poor fit, forward facing, no idea how they have been stored or if they have been in an accident etc.

The best option is to take your own infant carrier fitted with a seatbelt. It goes for free in the hold as one of your baby items. You can buy special travel bags or put it in a box well wrapped in bubble wrap and packed out with clothing and nappies for extra padding. As above, the Joie i-Gemm is a pretty decent cheap seat if you don't want to risk taking your own carrier as there is a chance it could get damaged in the hold.

Alternatively is a coach transfer an option? Your baby won't get their own seat unless you booked one on the plane, so no need for a carrier as they will just sit on your lap. But coaches are intrinsically safer than a taxi due to the advanced driver training, slower speeds and larger vehicle size. If you definitely don't want to take a car seat with you then I would opt for this over a hired taxi seat.
