Passport stamped on entering the EU

French passport control stamped my UK passport at Dover. I was a bit flustered as we had to wait over an hour for passport control and were about to miss our ferry so I forgot to give him my EU passport and didn't realise it was stamped until afterwards. It's not a problem is it? (Regarding maximum stay in the EU). Thanks!

Unlikely to be, especially as it's just happened the once.
My daughter and I have the same thing. She has UK ppt and EU citizenship as well, I have UK ppt and EU permanent residence. Occasionally I've forgotten to show the residence permit so coming into the country where I live I've been stamped.
I did ask the guy at the airport once and he said even if the entry/exit stamps flagged a query, I'd just be able to clarify that they'd been put there by mistake.

Are you still abroad? I would make sure you get it stamped when you go back though French border control to go home, otherwise you may have problems the next time you travel on it as you won’t have ‘checked out’ of the EU between now and the next time you use it so it could appear that you’ve been in the EU for more than 90 days. I had the opposite - mine didn’t get stamped entering France (the rest of my family have French passports so I think it just got missed) so when we left 5 days later I had to answer loads of questions about how long I had been in France. He let me through but made it very clear I needed to make sure I got it stamped next time!

Make sure you leave the EU on the same passport you entered on.

Whether maximum stay is an issue depends on how long you're staying and how long you've already done in the relevant period!

Sorry, should have said - I live in the EU and was on holiday in the UK. I definitely intend to stay in the EU for longer than six months!

The airport PAF (French Border Police) locally have been all over the place on this.....we've found when coming home that some officers are stamping passports regardless of whether you have also presented your resident's permit or not, others see the permit and don't stamp...all very French..TBF last time it happened to me the officer realised he'd stuffed up and apologised.

I agree with @HicIocusEst , ATM if queried about it I think you should be OK as long as you have your EU passport and/or residents permit to back up your claims. Might be a bit different in a year or so if the all singing, all dancing electronic system comes in.

Yes, how ''very French'' to vote for Brexit and create this nonsense in the first place...oh wait.

It's fine. The stamp is just a visual record of entry/exit and doesn't actually affect whatever rights you have.
Your entry/exit movements are recorded on the systems anyway even if you don't have a stamp.
I live in the EU and have acquired a mish mash of entry and exit stamps! I've occasionally had to show my residency at check in - completely unrelated to any stamps though as it was flagged through the computer records before anyone even looked at my passport.

Edited

You don’t need to get it stamped on exit. Your eu passport will override any stamps you have so might just require an explanation.
