Anyone speak Italian ????

I'm going to Milan next week for a few days. I LOVE Italy & have been many times but when I ask for red wine I sometimes get a slighly sparking red wine, which I don't like.

I've asked for vino rosso "non-frizzante" but I've still got the sparkling stuff! Is the correct term vino rosso "fermo".

Any help much appreciated!

would you say 'con gas'?

DelGirl · 01/03/2008 15:53

no, forget that

vino no spumante (Spoo-mawn-tay): no sparkling wine!!

Vorrei un bicchiere di Vino rosso per favore. ( Or una bottiglia if you are plannig on getting tanked up !)

That should do it. Vino Rosso frizzante is pretty rare !! I would ask for vino locale ( local ) or Vino della casa ( house wine . its normally better than Uk house wine !)

Fermo is the right word if there happesn to be bubbles round. Non gassata refers more to water have a nice time in Milan ....

Now I wait for the real italians to critisise my spellings !!!

Just had a thought Lambrusco is from that area ( or I think it is Franca where are you ????) which is why you might be getting the slightly fizzy stuff

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 10:31

You're being given Barbera. Lambrusco is sweetish and quite fizzy and popular in Amilia Romagna, but Barbera is slightly fizzy and drunk quite commonly around here. It's often described as vivace as opposed to fizzy, so look out for that description on the wine list. It's OK to ask for fermo.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

I don't mind slightly sparkling in a white or rose wine, but in warm red its gross
