Anyone going to Mauritius in Aug 2024?

After a dull UK holiday this summer, we are looking to go further afield next year. We have visited many of the European beach holiday hotspots, and we find them far too hot in the summer. We know that Mauritius in Aug is winter but it seems most days are ok, low 20s with occasional rain.
Anyone else going, or been in Aug? We will stay in the NW but any hotels you can recommend for kids that aren't too remote?

We are there now and weather has been c26C and sunny every day so far which is perfect for us as we also dislike extreme heat. We are staying at Long Beach then moving to Sugar Beach. Ĺong Beach is excellent. I think Sugar Beach will be similar and maybe less windy.

We took AI at both, it includes watersports like snorkelling, glass bottom boat to see corals and tropical fish, windsurfing, kayaking. Excellent food.

Good to know, and pleased you are having a great time. I need to take a look at options for hotels. We also want the water sports but also be able to get to places easily. Was looking at Grand Baie or Flic n Flax area.
Did you book independently?

Sugar beach is in Flic en Flac and that side is supposed to be better weather in August though we have had perfect weather the other side though to North at Long Beach. We booked via TUI to have it guaranteed if an issue though it was air mauritius flight taxi transfer long beach taxi transfer sugar beach taxi air mauritius so no real TUI presence. I don't drive so we don't have a car here but you can hire taxis by the day for 8 hours for about 60 pounds. This hotel can have any board basis you want I think, it used to be adults only but now takes kids, infact under 12s are free for everything.

We did multi centre with TUI to try 2 hotels.

LambLamb · 27/08/2023 17:27

Multi centre sounds good. I didn't realise we could do that. Let me know how the next hotel is!

Yes it's here, can do different countries too. I never used it before but quite like trying 2 places out. I was quite indecisive so helped.

We are off to Sugar Beach later today. I think its similar to Long Beach, there's included glass bottom boat for tropical fish, kayaks, windsurfing and snorkelling at both, I think whatever the board basis though check that if direct. Booking directly was more than via TUI. Restaurants are mainly a la carte at both. Lovely beaches and tropical fish and lovely pools as well. The taxi took us all along the east coast which was very pretty with sugar cane, green mountains and beaches with fishing boats. This is Long Beach one, mocktails, infinity pool, beach, beach from glass bottom boat and snorkelling. There are lots of kids activities for younger ones, mine is 17 so past that.

We went to Sugar Beach for our honeymoon in 2019 when it had just been renovated and reopened as 5*. You will have a fabulous time! It wasn't TUI back then, but interesting that it is now! We have always said we'd like to go back with our DC when they are bigger.

Silkiebunny · 27/08/2023 21:42

They do things like parasailing, canoeing, pedalos, and we did a speedboat pulling a tube seat today which DD loved. Those are extra, tube thing was 50 for 2 and just us. Though about 10 pounds in exchange fees.

Silkiebunny · 27/08/2023 21:45

Thanks Not Yes we would like to come back too and we rarely go back to places. It's somewhere you instantly relax. Long Beach used to be adults only but now it and Sugar Beach seem to do under 12s free for accommodation, food and activities. DD is 17 and appears charged like an adult but we both love it.

We had breakfast by the beach at Long Beach Hotel today then moved over via taxi to Sugar Beach. Lovely taxi ride passing sugarcane, pineapple fields and mountains, a mosque and hindu temple and sugar factory and ending at beach. Given welcome iced tea and got room with sea view. Lunch had Mauritain fish salad, DD had spring rolls and veg pizza and both had virgin pina coladas. Grand piano being played. Dinner at Spanish tapas restaurant. 4 nights here. Love it. This is room view and welcome cocktails. The little birds sing a lot here like last hotel.

There is Flic en Flac town by here and La Pirogue is linked and can use restaurants there as well, that is like thatched villas, both on the beach. It does get dark around 6pm as its their winter which is fine for us, light fairly early. Late check out is 6000 Mauritian rupee, about 100 pounds but we have a 10.55pm flight so will do. Watersports are based at La Pirogue and included.

I hated Mauritius. Maybe it was just us. As a family we don't really go for AI beach holidays. We were very very bored.
