October half term

We’ve booked Center Parcs for Friday to Monday for the 4 of us, DH, DS5 and DS1 but with activities it’s 2k without food.

We booked the flex package and I’m tempted to cancel as can’t help but think we can find something more reasonably priced.

Where is good for October half term?

We're in Yorkshire so going to London for 3 nights, train down with a friends and family pass around £175, premier inn family room around £130 per night then it's up to you what you want to spend! Museums and galleries free on certain days, loads just to see.

We’ve enjoyed the Landal parks and find them much better value than CentreParcs. They look to have availability at most of their parks for the first weekend of half term for between £300 and £700 for three nights depending on lodge size. Many of the parks have indoor pools, some have soft play areas etc.

We can definitely recommend Gwel an Mor (Cornwall), Kielder (Northumberland) and Darwin Forest (Peak District). I have been to both Gwel an Mor and Kielder with family with pre-school / early primary school DC and they really enjoyed it. Any activity prices are also much more reasonable than CentreParcs in my experience

Warmwell in Dorset

We're headed to Seahouses in Northumberland. £1300 for 6 nights. Hoping to see seals, not the right season for puffins though. Maybe the northern lights if we're lucky!

We've booked Mon to Fri in a 3 bed lodge with hot tub in Wales, under £600

We’re going to Italy this year but Searles in Hunstanton is good for that age. Their lodges are coming up at between £455 and £1000 depending on how fancy they are.

We're going to Turkey for 7 nights at a hotel on a B & B basis for £2.5k including flights for 4 of us.

Macdonalds resorts are nice. Google them.

Less activities but accommodation /settings, with pool and grounds and often close to
Lakes/coast etc.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/08/2023 06:45

That's insanely expensive. We are going to New York for 6 nights including flights and decent hotel with upgraded room for not much more.

Have a look at Hoseasons for lodge alternatives.

HOL2024 · 24/08/2023 09:29

now it definitely looks expensive!

Here starts more research - London sounds good as the eldest would love the history museum but not so sure on the littlest one!

@HOL2024 Go next door to the science museum iafter visiting the history museum. They have a young children's section in the basement which my kids loved when they were small. There are lots of interactive activities for all ages in the science.

@Ohyousillydivvy Would you mind sharing the name of the resort please? I'm starting to look and there are so many choices. It will be our first holiday abroad so would really like the money well spent. Many thanks

Ohyousillydivvy · 25/08/2023 19:14

@SBBTOL we're staying at a city centre hotel in Istanbul and booked the hotel (Holiday Inn) & flights (Turkish Airlines) via booking.com. It's a city break so we're not staying at a beachside resort.
