Last minute holiday - airline seat allocation

Elis44 · 23/08/2023 08:52

After lots of deliberation ( home or away!) we are about to book a package holiday, for two, with Tui,for Saturday.
Flights are with Easyjet.

Please do you know when are seats allocated?
At what stage in the booking will we know if we are sitting together or can choose to sit together?
Happy to pay but obviously realise that as this is so last minute there may not be any seats left together to make a choice.

I'm not a good flier and would not go ahead with the booking if we are told before paying that the seats will separate.

Worst for me would be not to know where we are sitting, pay, to find there are only single seats left.
Thanks so much.

We booked with Tui several weeks ago and I think we were allocated our seats straight away. I travel with my daughter and we usually select to sit across the aisle from each other.

Go onto booking and choose “reserve a seat”

When can you check in? That's when seats are allocated, but I don't know how far ahead that is with Easyjet - with some airlines like Jet2, you can check in a month ahead, so if they're the same, most people will have done so by now.

When they get down to the last few seats, they often tell you to check in at the airport, I assume to give them some flexibility if they need to move anyone for whatever reason (eg once they see people booked in the emergency exit seats it's likely they couldn't open the door in an emergency for example) or there isn't an oxygen mask for a baby in a row where someone has one with them - eg for last minute plane swaps.

You could try a dummy booking for the flight and see what seats you can choose as part of the booking process. If there's loads of seats that can be booked, you'll likely be able to pick where you sit, but if it doesn't give you this option, or there's only odd seats dotted around, you might not get that choice unfortunately.

Are there no other flights/holidays available or does it have to be Easyjet?

Thanks for the above.

The Tui package we are keen to book comes only with Easyjet flights.

We booked a Tui holiday last year where the flights were with Easyjet. If it is still the same, then as soon as you get your booking, you can go to the Easyjet site with your booking ref and choose your seats IIRC

Annon1234 · 23/08/2023 10:13

You’ll get an easyJet flight reference as soon as the booking is complete. And can then go onto easyJet and book the seats on there. Do be aware though as it is an easyJet flight once’s it’s booked and if there aren’t any seats together there isn’t anything you can do about it, so wouldn’t be able to swap or change flight

rookiemere · 23/08/2023 10:36

I'd go onto Easyjet as if you were booking the flight directly and once you get to the seat choice page you can see what's available. If there are a few seats available then you should be fine to proceed with your TUI booking.

Alarae · 23/08/2023 10:53

EasyJet you can pay to reserve seats or wait until check in and choose for free from what is left.

youwouldthink · 23/08/2023 10:57

Pop onto East Jet as if booking the flight itself. Go as far as picking seat allocation and you will be able to see whats available. Then if happy do the booking and use the flight ref number to book seats

Hbh17 · 23/08/2023 11:02

Do you need a package? Just book the flights, then you can see the seats, and then book your hotel directly? Most good hotels will then arrange a private airport pick up for you (for a fee).

Just be aware if you do this sometimes you are not entitled to use Tui provided facilities. May not be a problem for most but for example I met a family at a tui hotel this year who had done this and were disappointed they could not use the kids club.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/08/2023 11:21

I never book seats. I just check in and am prepared for us not to be sitting together. Each time we have still been put together or close enough.

Last year I booked three days before departure and I just checked us in straight away iand we were allocated seats a few rows apart from the kids - even better when we got on the flight we realised that DH and I had been allocated extra legroom seats.

This year I booked two weeks before departure for me and my 15 year old DD and we were able to check in on the same day we booked. Didn't pay the extra to pick seats and we were sat next to each other but across the aisle which was fine.

Just booked for DH and I to go away in October and we are quite happy to sit apart on the fight if it comes to it so I'll just check us in as soon as it opens and see what happens.

All of these were/are Jet2 holidays.

Thank you for your help.

Having rang Tui, this is too much of a risk for me.
Tui say they cannot check the Easyjet seats.

Sadly too big a risk for me and not one I can take.

I did look at booking flights separately with Easyjet but the flights alone are over £1200 between us, when added to the hotel cost and transfers this is so much more expensive than the package.

Cottage in the UK booked!
