Hi I am currently planning a 3/4 night trip to Stockholm next year for my husband and myself

Can I have any helpful tips on locations to stay / places to visit / local places and transport etc
we both love local culture when we are away.

Also neither of us have ever met anyone from Sweden so any culture / do and do nots would be appreciated

We are both from uk mid 37 & 43if that makes any difference!

Make sure you visit the ABBA museum!!

Seconded, the ABBA museum is brilliant! The Vasa museum is also really good - sounds boring (great big old wooden ship) but is actually amazing and totally worth visiting.

Vasa is amazing. Super easy to get round via ferries, also walking though distances can be deceiving because of only certain points to cross the water!

DD found being a vegetarian there a struggle though, but that may not be relevant ;-)

I’d recommend doing at least two boat tours during your 3/4 days there: a quick one-hour tour around the canals and a longer 3+ hour tour out to the archipelago.
Skansen open air museum is easily one of the best things to do if you love a little culture and history. The whole outdoor aspect of it makes it feel very much like walking back in time.

I loved Skansen when I was there. It's a big open air museum with old buildings and Nordic animals. It's on an island called Djurgarden which has a bunch of other museums (including Vasa) and some forest areas as well. We rented bikes and cycled around the forest part of the island which was really nice.

Also loved Millesgarden. It's a sculpture park right by the water. It's on an island called Lidingo that has its own little tram service.

Just wandering around Gamla Stan (the Old Town) was lovely. It can get touristy but it has some pretty squares and little shops, plus lots of cafes to pop into for a fika. And there's a cool science fiction bookshop if you're into that!

I agree with PP about a boat ride. There's also one from the city to Drottningholm palace. We just wandered around the palace gardens but I think you can pay to go in for a tour.

I also visited the Stockholm library in the centre of town. I thought it was cool but then I always check out the library when I go to a city.

Areas to stay: Vasastan was really nice. Not sure about hotels but there were some great restaurants there.

Transport: you can buy a 3-day travelcard that lets you use the trains, busses, trams and boats. You can download the app or else buy the physical card at a train station.
