Hi, I have lived in both Italy and Greece, and I know Omaha on and live full-time in Greece… The reality of living in both countries, aside, because when you live somewhere, you see the full picture, a Greece does have a lot of history, beautiful scenery, good food, although it can be on the heavier side compared with Italian, making trips to the beach, can be a little less costly than Italy, even Italians are complaining about the cost of a trip to the beach for the day this year.
in most cases, you still have to throw the toilet paper in the bin. Even when you own a home, usually you take the rubbish out every day. Somebody recently told me how to clean the bin, I believe they said with bleach, but I forgot what else they said.
if you are looking for a cheaper option to try local food, look for the places that do home cooked meals, they are generally for take away, but you can find meals for five or 60 in some places.
as I always recommend, ask, locals, and check for local events that may be going on while you’re there. You will learn about the culture and the people.
my Greek is not as fluent as I would like, but I am decent enough at it to be able to read books, and I really enjoy reading books by Greek authors, and looking for information in Greek. It opens up another door to the culture and the people and everything else. living here is quite a challenge though, but I still consider good sides. I would say go for it if you haven’t been here.
