A wintery week in Copenhagen - will we get bored?

Our family of 4 (both kids under 3) will be staying in Copenhagen in November for 8 days, my partner has a work commitment so we decided to make a trip out of it as have never visited before.

Would you a) spend the entire 8 days in Copenhagen or b) split your time between the city and then stay in another town reachable by train? Copenhagen seems to be quite distant from other towns so day trips seem a bit tricky.

We are interested in the usual sight-seeing, good walks, anything with animals for the kids, child friendly dining that’s still decent. It will be getting cold so I’m concerned if there will be much to do outside. Annoyingly we are leaving just before all the Christmas markets seem to open but hoping to find enough in the city to do.

Appreciate any advice - it would be our first time travelling with both kids, so a bit nervous!

I spent a week there on a study trip and we found lots to do. We did a day trip to Malmo across the bridge, and another further into Sweden. If you have an interest in architecture there is a lot to see, both modern (current) and Modern (20th Century.) For 8 days though I'd be tempted to split between a couple of places, maybe even Copenhagen and Malmo.

How long would the kids be happy on trains to do day trips?

Malmo is about 40mins
Roskilde is 20/30 mins

You could do a couple of days in Billund and do Legoland

Great, Malmo was on my list - is it nice for walking around, won’t have a car.

I think about 45 mins each way is our maximum without being that family ;)
I will look at Billund, would you say Legoland would have things suitable for our youngest (18 months). Thanks

There's loads to do! Hire bikes and explore Copenhagen for a couple of days. It's lovely and very safe to cycle around.

There are lots of museums, including child-friendly ones.
There's the Tivoli gardens

There's a huge aquarium a short train ride from the city - https://denblaaplanet.dk/en/welcome/

Malmo is only 40 mins by train and it's a lovely city to walk around/take a boat trip around.

And there are ideas for day trips here: https://www.visitdenmark.com/denmark/destinations/copenhagen/day-trips-copenhagen

Northern Europe’s largest aquarium is a sea of fun

Visit the National Aquarium Denmark, Den Blå Planet in Copenhagen for a day full of fun. The fascinating creatures will amaze you, the world-class architecture will take your breath away and the exhibitions will teach you all about life under water.

Am there on holiday right now, if you get the city card you can travel miles to attractions and the trains are very good.

Going to Sweden very easy and slightly cheaper to eat there!

Loads to do in Copenhagen!
I wouldn't bother with Legoland for that amount of time.
Bakken is open some November weekends for Christmas festivities
Tivoli gardens
Copenhagen zoo
Train to Helsingor
They have lovely Christmas shops in Copenhagen and the markets are usually mid November
Nyhaven
Roskilde Viking ships

We've just recently spent 4 days in Copenhagen and absolutely loved it. Our DC are a bit older and it was August (though cool and rainy most of the time) so slightly different circumstances, but I'd highly recommend the Go Copenhagen card. This gave us free access (once we'd paid upfront for the card) to all public transport (which we used a LOT), and multiple attractions.

We enjoyed the Amalienborg Palace, Botanical Gardens, Guinness Book of Records Museum (well the DC enjoyed that), a boat tour, Copenhagen Zoo, the Copenhagen City Museum and much more.

We also had a fun, delicious and extremely cheap dinner out at the 'social dining' restaurant, Absalon:

Tivoli might be shut, so check your dates.
I fully recommend a day out to Helsinor - the castle is very child friendly and the maritime museum which is next door is also very child friendly and indoors so great for a wet day. Plus you can wander and look at the boats at the harbour. Train was very easy from Copenhagen main station.

*Helsingor sorry typos! Also included on the copenhagen card, which like PP I'd fully recommend! Especially if weather isn't great because you can just dip in and out of places.

Thank you so much for all the responses, I feel quite reassured now and am researching all of your suggestions - sounds like Malmo will be at least one day trip for us.
