Why are the EasyJet flights always delayed ?

All the flights we have been this year with EasyJet have been delayed around 2hours. Is this the same for all other airlines? Should we consider other airlines?

I am on a plane every other week to a European destination and can confirm the delays with EJ are the worst and have resulted in me no longer flying with them. The worst one was 5 hours which resulted in me saying never again. I don’t have that problem with other airlines and happily pay a little bit extra.

Glad it is not only us or our bad luck

Out of Gatwick? Gatwick's been awful this year. I would say worse than last year when problems were well publicised etc.

Yes, Gatwick

We had a 2 hour delay both ways with Wizz air at gatwick this summer.

Cabezagrande · 14/08/2023 21:03

We had a 36 hour delay in June from Manchester to Frankfurt with Lufthansa, and had 2 separate 2 hour delays from Zurich to Manchester with Swiss in July. On both occasions in Zurich all the UK bound flights seemed to have delays.

Slightly informed rumours are:

EJ specific - Shortage of crew (especially pilots) and also some ground staff (Especially at Gatwick)

There has been a general shortage of some non-EJ staff at Gatwick (e.g. ATC were short for a while) which has contributed to all airlines picking up delays out of there at times.

More ATC slot delays for all airlines across Europe this year than last two or three...(Overspill from Ukraine war means more congestion, plus flights up this summer people back to travelling).

The smaller airports may be less effected by airport slots e.g. it's likely to be OK at places like "Back of Beyond International" but even the airline using these will still pick up en-route slot delays. You are almost certainly bound to get more delays out of the major airports.

As an aside It also helps your PR if you can kid people into thinking that landing time= arrival time.🙄

And yes, delays for an airframe (and/or crew) can increase throughout the working day and then feed into following sectors so later flights do tend to be the ones that run late unless the aircraft/crew have had a perfect day..and that's true almost regardless of the airline. Y

Makes sense

Had a 15 hour delay with EasyJet from Tenerife to Gatwick 9 days ago and got put up in an awful hotel overnight. Badly handled, badly communicated and then spent an hour to disembark the plane and an hour and a half to get luggage back.
Would need a serious price benefit for me to consider EasyJet holidays again.

StillWantingADog · 14/08/2023 21:17

@sheeplikessleepthat’s shit
also had a bad experience with EJ, half way into one holiday they cancelled our return flight- it was due to an atc strike so pretty much absolved themselves of any responsibility (other airlines were able to fly normally). A very expensive and stressful (with two small kids) nightmare. Again would be more than happy to avoid in future.

EasyJet have been terrible recently for me (Bristol). The early morning flight is usually ok but delays escalate during the day. Flew home from Geneva the other week and the Bristol, Luton and Gatwick EJ flights were all delayed

We were 1/2 hour late leaving for Austria a couple of weeks ago and 2.5 hours delay returning

SummerSazz · 14/08/2023 21:51

@Abracadabra12345 I also had 4 flights moved/canx in 2021 and 2022 to Sardinia with EJ. And a flight canx from Venice in 2018 (blamed the weather in the UK but a BA flight left for the same UK airport at the same time) - they just left us stranded....

Have flown Ryanair, Aegean and Jet 2 also this year - all fine and on time

Parlourgames · 14/08/2023 23:32

Our Gatwick flights were cancelled and then delayed by 2 hours

but so were our trains

public transport is wholly unreliable

I've flown five times in the past year:

To France, Greece and Spain out of Gatwick with EasyJet.

To Ireland with Aer Lingus and Austria with Austrian Airlines out of Heathrow.

The EasyJet / Gatwick flights were ALL delayed, even in low season. The Heathrow experience was MUCH better so don't know if that's airports or airlines at fault.

What I have realised is that once you've added seats and luggage, EasyJet are not even cheaper. They're just rubbish.

BRISTOLGAS · 29/09/2023 12:07

all EJ flights i have taken this month were delayed 2-3 hours..usually the plane assigned for say Bristol was in Paris or somewhere else and had to wait for it to arrive from there- they are obviously trying to add extra flights everyday- must be costing them a fortune in compensation claims.

MenopauseSucks · 29/09/2023 12:23

I've flown EasyJet return from LGW to France twice this year - 1st time out of season & 2nd start of August - all 4 flights were on time.
Both outward flights from LGW were 2nd flights of the day ie 9am instead of 6am. Both return flights from France were mid afternoon.
I think it's luck of the draw.
All flights I only took hand luggage though as didn't want to risk any problems with baggage handlers!

alloalloallo · 29/09/2023 12:51

I’ve flown several times this year with different airlines, including Easy Jet, from different airports. Delayed every time when flying from Gatwick with every airline but no delays from other airports. Common denominator seemed to be Gatwick

SoSad44 · 30/09/2023 18:19

Every time I have flown easyjet this year (last time was last weekend) flights were delayed and cancelled. So frustrating

SoSad44 · 30/09/2023 18:19

And yes always Gatwick

aroundtheblock · 01/12/2023 21:36

I fly easyJet regularly, at least twice a month and every single flight has been delayed by at least an hour.
They are also very slow at boarding unlike ryanair and they always check your bag fits in the baggage checker which means they always miss their take off slot.
I can't describe in words how much I despise easyJet

saraclara · 01/12/2023 21:46

I've flown four sectors with them from/to Luton this year, and all four were on the dot punctual.

It's Wizzair that I've had to give up on after cancelled flights and a 12 hour delay (announced after we'd gone through security so we had no choice but to spend it all in the departure lounge)
