Turkey, mid April - will we be shivering or nicely warm?

We're a bit restricted as to when we can go as I'm pregnant. All we want is a bit of sunshine and a pool to teach DS to swim in. Have found a fab deal to Turkey for 15 nights from the 17th April but it says the average temperature is 20 degrees, which sounds a bit chilly to me. I just want to be able to get my pregnant self into some water and not be cold - has anyone been in April? What do you think?

I guess it will be warm, quite nice I would think. It wont be heat wave weather, but nice. A colleague went to Southern Spain in January and came back with a lovely tan, said it was hot, but chlly at night. Turkey is a bit furher down I think, plus a few months on, so I think you have no worries. HTH

warm by day but can be chilly at night. and a lot depends which part of turkey you're heading for. Antalya region (Kalkan to Alanya)odds on for warmer weather than the Aegean resorts. pools sometimes cooler than the sea. Going myself early April for the first time. been to greece lots in April with all kinds of weather. has never put me off, but am bringing ds' wetsuit just in case.

Cheers for replies! I quite fancy Turkey but have gone really nesh in my old age and I can't bear the thought of being cold, and I know I won't get in any water if it's nippy.

Hmmm...can't decide if Egypt would be a safer bet, although I went in April 2 years ago and it was silly hot. Don't want to be boiling my toddler or unborn child!

God, I'm so fussy!

I went to Turkey in the first week of May two years ago and it was warm enough to sunbathe and swim in the sea and pool. The sea was a bit chilly, but nothing like UK temperatures. The evening were much cooler - I took my North Face puffer and I used it! We were in the Kalkan/Kas area, which can be windy at this time in the afternoon/evening.

As Julia said, it depends where in Turkey you are going.

Antalya will probably be warm enough to swim. Cesme, Bodrum, etc (on Agean coast) probably won't.

I bet you will come back with a nice tan, though

It's in Icmeler, on the Aegean. Bugger. I can't sunbathe without swimming, I get too bored, and I think if we can't mess about in the pool we'll struggle to entertain the nipper.

Am starting to wonder if we should either go to Egypt or not bother at all... Save the cash and go to Cornwall instead!

Just be aware that the pool may not be heated. Many outside pools in top hot summer holiday places don't heat the pools as they rely on the sun throughout the summer to do it for them.

So whilst the outside temp may be nice - the pool may well be too cold especially for your DS. Having said that he may be OK - depends on age I guess...

Ah - it sounds like there's too many variables, I think I've gone off the idea! DS is only 18 months and I'm already a bit apprehensive about taking him all that way, entertaining him on the flight and then having nothing much for him to do at the other end.

Back to the drawing board I think - thanks for all the help!
