Which Greek island?

I'm thinking (and saving up) a bit ahead to getting a surprise Christmas present for DP of a holiday on a Greek island for the two of us (kids all now all grown so we're beginning to take advantage!) in the late spring/early summer next year.

Neither of us has ever been to a Greek island before. Reading up on it I like the idea of Crete but would really appreciate any suggestions/recommendations?

Yes and just off Naxos are the Little Cyclades (Iraklia, Schinoussa, some others I can’t remember!) which have a totally different and much quieter feel.

Santorini is incredible. You’ll never see scenery like it anywhere else in the world.

Can recommend Vora Villas Imerovigli.

Personally I’d stay in Imerovigli, beautiful village with incredible views, lovely restaurants.

Visit Oia but go when it’s quiet. Bottom of steps in Oia is Ammoundi bay - lovely for lunch or dinner.

Santos winery for sunset wine tasting

Top tip - lots of steps don’t wear flat shoes with no grip eg sliders unless you want to go sliding down the cobbled steps

Hydra is just gorgeous. You can be there in 2 hours from Athens on a ferry. It's paradise for adults, no cars, no motorised vehicles at all. Just donkeys.
food is fantastic, the port is like a picture postcard and it's just utterly relaxing.

you could have a week there just enjoying lovely food and wine, swimming in the coves and totally switching off. Or you could split your week between Hydra and the joy that is Athens ❤️🇬🇷 🇬🇷 🏛️
