Too ill to travel - insurance claim help

I was meant to be on holiday now and am feeling very miserable as I was too ill to go. I should have flown yesterday but honestly could not have got to the ariport/sat on a flight / eaten a thing/ made it through the first day and have been bedridden. It's all been very stressful and upsetting.

Bottom line is that I don't know what my chances of claiming any money back are or what I even have to do now.

I think what I had was some kind of gastritis . Vomiting , nausea, exhaustion. The GP is vaguely aware as I phoned on Thursday and got a prescription for anti nausea meds.

DH is fretting a bit because I am a bit prone to stomach upsets and he seems to think the GP will have to report literally every GP visit even if no action was taken/blood tests fine. But stomach upsets didn't come up anyway as a pre existing condition, I did test for Covid as the policy was clear on that but it's not Covid.

Can anyone talk me through what I am supposed to do now? Obviously, as it stands, I have lost all the money for the holiday. Do I just need to suck it up? Not phoned insurance company yet as I obviously can't speak to doctor at the weekend.

Insurance policy says we might be able to claim if a traveller is 'seriously ill' with no real sense of what that phrase means. Obviously there is lots of small print. I am reasonably sure that had I jetted off hoping to be well enough and then been ill at my destination, the insurance company would not have been impressed so I did the right thing by not going, really.

Anyone got experience or words of wisdom?

Depends on how your insurance provider works but with mine you could start the claim process online, at which point you can see the medical claim form that the GP would need to complete and how much detail they'd need to put. Then you can decide whether it's worth asking them to do it. Surely you've got nothing to lose? My GP charged £35 to do it and took a few weeks after I'd had a phone appointment to discuss it. If he says no or his answers mean they won't pay out, at worst you'll have lost £35 but there's always a chance you'll get your money back

Ah, OK, thanks. I'll check that out later. We use Insure and Go, as ironically DH is the one with pre existing medical issues.

So, do I phone GP tomorrow and request an appointment?
