October break in Seville

Considering a trip to Seville in mid October. Never been to mainland Spain before and have heard great things about Seville. Just me and DP - we love eating, drinking, strolling, nice buildings, bit of light museum and shopping action. Would probably go for 5-7 days with a day trip to Cadiz (train) and anywhere else that sounds good thrown in there too

Any thoughts about what weather might be like, and suggestions for things to do and places to eat / drink gratefully received. Ta!

Ooooh, fantastic.
Its an amazing city and will be pretty warm in October.
Go and see Flamenco, it’s (according to some) it’s birthplace

You could also do a day trip to Cordoba and see the Mezquita and the Alcazar.

The Alcazar, the Plaza de Espana, the cathedral, all gorgeous. The Plaza is in the middle of beautiful gardens and water features. You can see the bullring and factory made famous in Carmen.
The food is scrumptious - I can’t remember the names of all the restaurants we went to, but they were all delicious, with a focus on local air cured hams, squid, great tapas selections etc. I think you can get a good meal anywhere in central Seville. It’s also a surprisingly green city, lovely to stroll shady streets under orange trees.

One of the best cities!

October is a perfect time to go. Summer is too hot. I was there April this year and it was 30+ degrees every day.

Definitely check out some of the rooftop bars at nice hotels - Soho Boutique and ‘Abba The Roof Giralda’ were my faves.

Virgin coffee (just behind Las Setas) does the best coffee.

When we were there for the New Year we did the train to Cadiz and loved it there. People were swimming in the sea. Also took a fast train to Madrid for a long day. Hired a car and drove to Tavira in Portugal on NYD which was lovely. Sitting in the sun with a coffee and pastel de nata 🥧

We went last November. The weather was perfect- in the low 20'sC.
Less tourists .5-6 days will be plenty.

Sounds lovely! Thanks everyone ☺️

We're going end of November and planning day trips to Cadiz and Cordoba. Some lovely ideas here. Not sure what the weather will be like, but most likely nicer than Belgium :)

'We're going end of November and planning day trips to Cadiz and Cordoba.'.

Watched a video about Cordoba on YouTube and now that's definitely on the day trip list too!

What's the range of cuisine like in Seville? Obviously tapas is great but a bit of variety would be good too

Also planning a trip here, sounds like October is a good time.

Visit Grenada and the Alhambra palace and Cordoba.

Great idea! I love Seville. We went in September one year and I have such vivid and fond memories of walking around La Giralda at night with the relaxing sound of the fountains, Spanish guitar and the bats flying overhead. It was just heaven.

Get the bus over to the Roman ruins of Italica if you can as we found that fascinating.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/08/2023 10:03

Augh. Now I want to go back to Seville 😂

harriettenightingale · 10/08/2023 10:08

Best flamenco is across the river bridge in Triana. Lots of bars with spontaneous, non touristy performances. Walk back across at dawn and eat some churros from a kiosk before bed!

You'll have an amazing time. Seville is really easy for bars and tapas places - the Macarena district is great for that. El Rinconcillo is great for the old school tapas bar experience - smartly dressed, very efficient waiters who chalk up what you bill on the bar top in front of you as you go. Go early as it gets busy.
