Florida late June/July? Terrible idea?

Just that really.

Will we live to regret it if we go to Florida post GCSEs? Looks like it'll be exceptionally wet and exceptionally humid Sad

I was hoping to do something good with that small window of pre summer holiday time we will have next year, but I fear it will just be wet, humid and miserable.

If you've been at that time, just how awful was it? I live in the Middle East so am used to hot, but it's generally dry.

We only got the odd rain shower when we went in the 6 week holiday. The heat was the worst thing, but if you’re used to it I’d go for it.

It will be busy because American schools are off then. It is also very humid which is a different type of heat. If you can go late august it’s very hot and humid but the parks are quieter

The only bad thing about July is the heat/humidity (and the crowds if you’re going to Orlando). In the afternoon when its really hot and steamy, it often rains very heavily but only for a couple of hours (usually about 3-5pm) and if you’re expecting it it’s not so bad.

We went then when I was at uni and the crowd levels were insane! You’ve got English, Scottish and American schools off at the same time. When I went middle of august a few years later the queues were much better as Scottish and American schools have gone back. The rain was fine, it would only last for about 20 minutes and then clear. We had one night which the fireworks were rained off but thar was it.

Why Florida? I don't really understand the attraction!
Would you consider further afield? Santa Fe is lovely, so different and summer is mostly sub 30 degrees and dry. Quite arty.
We went white water rafting in Taos for thrills, horseback riding, there's a rodeo festival late June, Indigenous art, and vibrant music scene plus more. I'd love to return. Florida? Meh. Hot, humid, crowded, not very interesting.

@MistyMorningMelons It is incredibly hot and humid and it is incredibly busy in June/July. When you say Florida do you also mean Orlando, Disney/Universal etc? If so American and South American schools are out and there are group tours of South Americans in Disney especially.

This is usually why if you are constrained to summer school holidays lots of UK visitors (ourselves included) go for the last 2 weeks in August as the vast majority of American schools are back in session. My family can all cope with August heat/humidity in Orlando which is usually when we go but July nearly broke us. It is the humidity and dew point meaning you can sweat but it doesn't evaporate, not dry heat like I imagine the Middle East to have.

Where in Florida are you thinking?

If it's the only time you can go you will make it work. We have been in July before, yes it was hot, yes it rained for a bit every day, there were storms, but our recent trip in May had all of the above too. It's not the best time to go in terms of crowds and heat, but if it's the only time you will still have a great time, just plan it in a way that factors in crowds and weather, pool afternoons, take breaks in the day to go in the evening instead when queues should be a bit more manageable. That kind of thing.

If it was that awful it wouldn't be as busy as it is in July Smile

Sorry I've just assumed Orlando Blush
