Campervan five day trip in the rain? Where to go?

Starting in London. We have borrowed a friend’s campervan from Friday (well, we can borrow it anyway! Having second thoughts because of the rain! Although it’s a lovely van) and it’s forecast to rain everywhere.

Where do people recommend we spend five days campervaning?

We have two primary aged children.

It's in central Scotland for the next 10 days according to the forecast after today.

If it is a campervan then yes I agree, to the uninitiated it could start to feel a bit claustrophobic after a few days of poor weather as they are set up to be a lounge OR a dining room OR a bedroom. Unless you intend to spend whole days outside (walking, sightseeing, activities etc regardless of the rain) you may not enjoy being confined.
If it is a motorcaravan however then they are more spacious and it is much easier to spread out and put up with the weather. Yes you still have to contend with the rain but when back in the van there is more room to hang wet things and chill out.

Dry

I have a campervan and I'm not going away until it perks up a bit or there are places that are dry.

It's difficult with 2 kids in constant rain! Everything will get soggy and hard to dry coats, shoes, wellies etc
And you'll be sat in the van on top of each other. Or you have to find places to go that are dry museums, cafes etc.

Packing up a wet van to drive around is also a pain

Ok I think I’ll take your advice and not do the van in the rain! A soggy van and stuck inside it sounds rubbish!

I did think about going over to France in it, but the eurotunnel is looking seriously pricey at the moment. And not sure how far I’d have to go to make it worth for the weather!

Urgh where is the sun this summer!?

If you're in London - or collecting from London, go abroad! It won't be much of a drive to get to Folkestone or Dover. The weather on the Normandy coast and Brittany looks fab. England is s**t for campervaning and motorhoming. France is setup for it. Wild camping is legal. Most towns and villages have free (or very cheap) aires (not to be confused with motorway service airs - NEVER overnight at one of them). Aires are designated areas for campervans and Motorhomes to overnight at. They'll often have a service point where you can ditch your toilet, great waste and fill your fresh tank.

Even if wild camping and aires aren't your bag. France has a network of municipal campsites - basic, very spacious and VERY cheap. You'd easily get your ferry or tunnel costs back in what you save on overnight accommodation. Campsites here are largely shit, packed in and eye wateringly expensive.
