Channel Islands, worth the expense?

I’ve always fancied going to the Channel Islands for a few days. Probably Guernsey rather than Jersey. My grandparents used to tell me about their honeymoon to the Channel Islands when they got married in the 1890s. Yes I’m old (and they were in their 90s!). So since then I’ve had an itch to go.

Flights look like £200 and hotels about £150 a night. Is it worth it for 2-3 nights? Or should I just go to Seville instead.

My sister lives in Jersey so I have been there a lot. Lots of nice things to do but avoid The Devils Hole. Lots of trekking to get there then it's just a little metal thing in the ground. Fort Regent is good if it rains take your swim suits. Elizabeth Castle is in the sea. You can walk out at low tide but be warned the sea tide comes in ridiculously quickly. I'd advise you to catch the Duck back to shore. Plemont beach, in the North of the island is beautiful. There is a cave on the beach. The Jersey pottery is worth a look too. Lots of lovely restaurants and especially seafood restaurants to try. There is a lovely Italian restaurant opposite to Elizabeth Castle but I can't remember it's name.

I would come to Guernsey in October as we have the Tennerfest then, restaurants do set meals at discounted prices so a good way of trying somewhere without top much expense.
The hotels also do deals at that time.

Weather can be dodgy in October though

Jersey Pottery has now shut down. They still produce pottery but from mainland UK. Didn't survive pandemic. They run some excellent restaurants though. Jersey Crab Shack - branches in Gorey and St Brelade (burgers, crab, Buddha bowls etc), and Oysterbox in St Brelade - more upscale.

Fort Regent also has not had a swimming pool for a very long time. I wouldn’t though visit the Channel Islands for a weekend and head to an indoor swimming pool so I suspect it won’t matter much!

Flashbacks to school swimming galas there!

I grew up in jersey and would vote for a stay there! It's absolutely gorgeous.

Weather is miserable at the moment according to my parents but generally it's warmer, drier and sunnier than the mainland.

A good friend lives in Jersey so I visit regularly.

The vineyard was good for a visit & it has some lovely spa's eg hotel de France.

Lovely place for a visit

Jersey pottery’s main site was sold for housing before the Pandemic. Whilst you can still buy branded items they’re not what they were. Then again the Gorey site was so beautiful- I miss a trip out there, watching the painting, browsing the shop and the cafe was great too!

Thanks for the link, @Whenwillglorioussummercome! And I really liked watching the painting as a youngster, @Womblegreen.
