How much cash.

Hi,
I’m heading to the south of France in a couple of weeks and I can’t figure out how much actual currency to take with me.
we are self catering and have access to a fee free debit and credit card. I’m just wondering if it’s worth while changing some money before we go as well. I’ve not been abroad in years, so have no idea.
many advice?
thanks in advance.

5 altogether. 2 adults 3 children, 1 a teenager who will have her own spending money.

I never take cash with me. I use my near perfect exchange rate cards (Halifax Clarity credit and Chase debit) for the most part and if I feel I may need a little cash I use the Chase debit card at a cash point. No extra fees and the best exchange rate.

We used €200 in cash in 2 weeks on hol-but €120 of that was the villa cleaning fee that had to be cash.

I like to have a little bit on me but not a lot. So I’d say €100-150 is ample.

We're just back from holiday....DH said not to bother getting euros and just use card. I said we definitely need some cash. I took 250 euros for a week and withdrew probably another 200 from atms out there. We used card too in some shops and restaurants. Our hotel restaurant wanted cash for drinks at dinner time and on the beach we paid for use of sunloungers in cash. Definitely think you do need some cash.

Great, Thank you. I’ve got a sterling debit card which is perfect exchange rate and a no fee credit card so will always have access to money. Think I’ll exchange £500 and then give the kids their spending money out of that and the rest for when we need cash.

We needed euro coins for the trolley, left some cash for tips and there were a few small shops with minimum card spend when we were just getting DD a lolly or soft drinks.

So we didn’t need it a lot and didn’t need it until we arrived so you can just draw it out on arrival. But we happened to have €200ish left over from a previous trip so took that.

We've been in Gran Canaria for 10 days and took 500 euros cash and we easily spent it. Rest we paid on Starling card which is fab.

We took $500 to fuerteventura and had to force ourselves to spend it as it was easier to use the card (fee free from nationwide). We would have been OK with maybe half of that.
