Neilson - cost of extras

Hi, just wondering if anyone could give me a very rough idea of how much drinks are at Neilson (alcoholic and soft).
Also snacks for the kids - would it be wise to pack some in the suitcase for mid morning/afternoon?
The cost of the holiday is at the top top end of our budget so hoping to plan sensibly for extras while we are there.

It's a few years since we went but I think they tend to be on the expensive side. Good idea to pack a few snacks. Depending on your location you can probably find a local shop to stock up on a few soft drinks.

Having said that we had two fantastic holidays at Neilson resorts ... thoroughly enjoyed them (despite being rather skeptical about them before we went).

The Neilsons holiday I did - drinks were about the same as London pub prices but it might depend on the country…

As for snacks, if it’s all-inclusive there are often free snacks available round the pool or at the bar etc. If not, I would give your kids a big breakfast and then maybe take a banana, boiled egg or cake from the breakfast room as a snack?

Drinks are expensive in our experience - more so than home for us (North West).

Definitely take snacks or stock up in a local shop - we usually grab some soft drinks too and have been known to take our own bottles of duty free alcohol for pre drinks…

But yes, we have loved holidaying with them for years. The activities are really excellent

I don't remember ever needing snacks for DD during the day, other than maybe an icecream in the afternoon after finishing with the kids club. Drinks were ok not extortionate iirc.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/07/2023 18:07

Bottled water definitely get from a local shop if you can, I think that probably applies anywhere

washrinse · 26/07/2023 18:17

Brill thanks all. I’d forgotten all about bottled water!! It’s been a long time since we’ve travelled anywhere you couldn’t drink tap. Sounds like a trip to a nearby shop is a must on day one then.

Tap may be fine, they should tell you at the first briefing.

If you eat enough at breakfast and lunch then snacks shouldn’t be needed, just some drinks.

swifterama · 27/07/2023 09:18

I don't remember the kids having many snacks- they eat them constantly at home- they just ate loads at mealtimes. I think they sold crisps etc at the bar and there were ice creams.
There was a place where you could refill water bottles and plenty of filtered water at meals. We never bought water.
Drinks seemed to be less than at home but more than in local bars. ( we were in Greece) I think you can say whether your children are allowed to charge soft drinks etc to the room!

swifterama · 27/07/2023 09:19

Depending on where you are it may not be super easy to pop to a shop.

blametheparents · 27/07/2023 09:24

When we have done Neilson holidays, there is filtered water available and you can refill water bottles there. I have not bought bottled water when holidaying with them in Greece.
We have not found that snacks are necessary. Meals are plentiful and the kids are busy in between and don't seem to need anything.
Local shops can be good for stocking up on things like lemonade and coke, if that's your thing. I love a Diet Coke (or three!)

Have a fab time. We are not going with Neilson this year and I wll miss it,

washrinse · 27/07/2023 17:35

That’s good re filtered water.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed on the kids not needing snack front but will have to see it to believe it! 😀

There was water cooler machines around the resort last year and I never bought bottled water once. Bar drinks weren’t ridiculous but weren’t cheap either. When I went with kids I don’t remember them ever asking for snacks (and they’re the sort of kids who would!) as they were out at kids club activities all the time between meals. We took a few cereal bar type things last year in case we did longer bike rides but we were always back for lunch or dinner.
