Do the soaring summer temperatures predicted for 2024 tempt you to book family holidays during term time?

An ongoing discussion at the office lately on the back of the record breaking temperatures across Europe - for parents who usually honour term dates when considering booking their summer vacations, do these past few weeks and predictions for 2024 / prices make you consider taking your main summer holiday before schools are out?

Couldn't anyway, even if wanted to. As a teacher myself 😐

LookingForFreeDoughnuts · 26/07/2023 11:51

Is this research for an article, perhaps? 🧐

I work in a school so not an option however the soaring prices would be a bigger incentive to book out of holiday time if I was a possibility for me

CeeJay81 · 26/07/2023 11:59

We do term time holidays anyway. School here in Wales always been fine with it anyway. Never go away in Summer hols due to the prices, now there is another reason not too.

I think feb and October half terms and Easter holidays look more attractive for going abroad. With the 6 weeks being better suited to UK holidays. But mind you I felt like that anyway because I can't cope with 30 degree plus heat!

We always do our beach holiday in May half term. Cyprus has been reliable for weather the last few years, we’ve also tried Greece which was a bit more variable and Majorca which was really warm last year.

We also like a European city break in October, as the weather is usually pleasant for exploring and we make sure there’s a couple of inside activities scoped out in case of rain.

No, why, just book a cooler destination! Weather varies - I've been in Provence in late September and it's been hot

Zanatdy · 26/07/2023 17:48

Only 2 more summers of this, after 25yrs! Dd (15) will finish early next year for GCSE so will get an early break in, still July though, then once sixth form is done that’s it. I won’t ever be on holiday in August again, maybe early June or September

LlynTegid · 26/07/2023 17:49

And what were the temperatures in June?

cuckyplunt · 26/07/2023 17:50

No, they scare thelife out of me! Wtf are we doing to this poor planet?

Finnegans · 26/07/2023 17:51

Yes, my considered response to increasingly worrying evidence of global warming proceeding apace is to think about the timing of my family week in the sun. 🙄

Nousernamesleftatall · 26/07/2023 17:52

No. You can’t predict temperatures that far. El Niño won’t happen for another few years.

AnyFucker · 26/07/2023 17:58

Of course not. Next summer could be cool and wet.

Stokey · 26/07/2023 18:00

There's probably plenty of people who decided to stick to a UK holiday this year based on the amazing weather last year. You just can't predict it. I also don't like taking my kids out of school in term time, it's not really fair on the school and teachers.

Also the heat is bad this year but it's pretty hot most years in August in southern Europe. We always go somewhere with a pool and don't really do much between 11 and 4.

Circethemagician · 26/07/2023 18:06

No, of course not.
