My DH is ramping up for a really tough few months in work and should be out of the woods by Jan next year. Therefore we've decided to go on holiday in Feb to relax afterwards. It's me, DH and DS age 13. DS is off school for a week but we could stretch out the holiday to 10 days if necessary.
The only place I can think of to get some sun is Dubai but I'm not sure that option fills me with much excitement . We like chilling out on a beach but also like to do some active stuff like diving, water sports etc. Budget is probably £5-6k.

Any ideas? I'm really stumped. I love Europe but realise we won't get much sun in Feb so probably need to think further afield.

Ras al
Khaimah was lovely this feb.

great food and hotels.

we did 5 days half board club room at The intercontinental.
the sea wasn’t warm enough for me but the large pools are heated and the temperature was about 25 degrees.

@Lira715 yep Dubai would be my choice but I think the cost puts my DH off. Through a friend we can get an amazing deal on a room in Caesar's Palace Hotel. Just need spending money now!

We stayed here: https://www.tui.co.uk/destinations/africa/cape-verde/cape-verde-islands/boa-vista/hotels/riu-palace-boavista.html?utmmedium=paidsearch&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwO2lBhCFARIsAB0E8B9-xSPSB3-k-Dd6YSMcn6ToIh7jMm01amAizBOpG81HK--c61GzE4aAqF7EALwwwcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
In Cape Verde last November. It was the best hotel I've stayed in for food, friendly staff and the hotel is lovely, they have a small water park for your DS too. You wouldn't be able to have a swim up room with your DS as they are adults only, but the other rooms are identical in the main hotel. It's much smaller than the other hotels on the island. There's a slightly larger identical one on Sal island too. I believe Sal has a bit more going on than Boa Vista.

Pretty much anywhere in Asia or central America/Caribbean is lovely in February.

Stokey · 22/07/2023 21:07

Sorry should have said southeast Asia - so India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, southern bits of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

toddlermom99 · 23/07/2023 06:35

Dominican Republic - you can find deals on TUI for around 1300-1900 per person for all inclusive for a week

toddlermom99 · 23/07/2023 06:36

South east Asia is amazing but too far to travel for a week IMO.

I used to do a lot of sunny Feb half term holidays with my DC as it’s my birthday then, we went to Cape Town, Dubai, Dominican Republic and cruised from LA to Pacific side of Mexico.
Without the DC I’ve been to Tenerife two times in February and once in March and got very lucky with the weather.
Holidays we did at Easter with the DC/tweens that would also work in February are Egypt with lots of excursions including flying to Luxor, Brazil (Rio and Iguassa) combined with Argentina and a day trip to Paraguay, Canaries cruise, twin centre in St Lucia, twin centre in Cuba. We like a mix of chilling and doing/seeing lots of things.

@NoSunNoSun these holidays all sound amazing. We have family in Los Angeles and used to visit quite a lot but I find as I'm getting older I need much longer to recover from jet lag before I start back work. So i think for a week in Feb we need somewhere that doesn't have a big time difference. Canaries cruise sounds amazing. I would love a cruise.

Kerala was amazing in February but we went for a fortnight. We had no jet lag on arrival, it was after we returned home which was fine. We plumped for there because it was a cheap, last minute deal.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/07/2023 14:57

Somewhere like Oman, Jordan or Eilat in Israel maybe- we went to Egypt but were all really really ill (5 star iberostar too) so that's on my never again list - Caribbean lovely that time of year but won't come cheap.

WithIcePlease · 23/07/2023 14:58

The canaries in January is very variable. Last year in January it was warm enough for a bikini on the beach 2 days of the 5 we were there. Spent the other days walking and sightseeing.
This year it was beach weather every day we were there.

Twilightstarbright · 23/07/2023 21:27

Gambia or Senegal will be 30c and no jet lag.

Whichwhatnow · 23/07/2023 21:50

Morocco is usually pretty warm and the flights are cheap, so more money for the hotel. Or completely the opposite - how about Thailand? Flights may be relatively pricey but hotels and eating out can be mega cheap, my sister and her DP are staying in a gorgeous beach front bungalow on one of the islands for 75 quid for an entire week in December! Self catering but the food over there is amazing and it is basically paradise. Would definitely want ten days tho given flights times.

NancyJoan · 23/07/2023 21:55

Canaries might be quite cold, we had a freezing Feb half term in Lanzarote when DD was quite small and vowed never again.

Zipps · 23/07/2023 22:16

Caribbean cruise
Mexico Xcarat
Beaches Turks and Caicos but you would have to up the budget.
Madeira.
Tenerife has a brilliant water park called Siam park if do decide on a canary island cruise.

AnnieSnap · 23/07/2023 22:21

Caribbean, India or Africa

pharmachameleon · 23/07/2023 23:01

Thanks everyone. @Zipps-we go to Tenerife a lots and love Siam park! I'm like a big kid there.
