Antigua holiday and formula! Please help!

Hi

I am going on holiday to Antigua with my 4 month old.

I combi feed him, and now am concerned re the formula situation.

We plan to order and collect some pre-made milks once we get passed security at the airport but I can’t take as much as I need for the holiday.

Ideally for space we would like to take powdered formula which we would make up with the bottled water in the resort, however I have read you have to be careful with the sodium/mineral levels. Is this correct or can I use any bottled water the resort provides? I am concerned because once we are in the resort we are pretty isolated and won’t be able to get to the shops to get our preference of water.

Also sterilising, can I use tap water or does this need to be bottled also? (I will be cold water sterilising.

Thanks

Did you get an answer on the above? I’m travelling there in November with my 5 month old and have all the same questions as you xxx

When we travelled, we got a kettle from hotel reception and boiled the water as we would at home.

I wouldn't use bottled water if I were you.

Re sterilisation, we used the restaurant microwave so maybe find out if they have one?

Alternatively, I would take a Milton bucket and tablets with you in your suitcase (stuff it with clothes) or Milton do a Solo Travel Steriliser.

Boil water and let it cool, then add tablet.

You used the tap water and just boiled as normal? I thought it wasn’t suitable for babies, as it’s desalinated sea water and has lots of chlorine in it?

Water inside a resort is often from a different. You will have to check with the hotel and see what they say. Alternatively what a GP or Healthcare Visitir advises.

Antigua is a small island. It wouldn't cost much in a taxi to get to the supermarkets.

You can do two click and collect orders to the airport. Do one in your name, and one in the other adult's name (presuming you're travelling with somebody else). If not, just do two orders. I ordered 20 when I went and I packed 6 in my case but if I went again, I'd just do two orders of ready made.

When we were there, to make up feeds with powder, we used bottled water which was really easy to find. Most have an icon of a baby on the bottle to indicate it's baby safe.

I poured out the boiled water at the start of the day into the bottles, so I poured 5oz for a 7oz bottle. Then when it came to making the bottle, I put the 5oz in a plastic cup, used 2oz boiling, added the powder, then topped up with the 5oz so it was much cooler.

To sterilise, I took a collapsible washing bowl and used tap water and Milton tablets.

Evian has very little sodium. All water will tell you how much sodium is in the water.

You could email ahead to hotel to order you in particular water and being powder and a non electronic steriliser. Been there with a 5 month old. He's now 20 and survived!
