Can't squash her into travel cot........

Dd is now way too big for her travel cot but she's still sleeping in her normal cot at home...beautifully. We're going away to my brother's house at Christmas so what should we do about where she sleeps? He hasn't got a spare little bed for her to try. Should I take her big cot mattress and make her a little nest on the floor on that in our room? I'm really scared that she won't sleep and the whole house will be kept awake. Any thought wise MN ladies?

Can she sleep in the bed with you?

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 13/12/2004 15:03

or can BIL borrow a cot

do you know anyone who has a larger travelcot you could borrow (we have a mothercare one which is fairly large)

How old is she?

How about a ready bed - if you are likely to be sleeping away from home in future too. DD started usng hers just before she was 2 I think.

Or, as already suggested, can you she sleep in with you?

She's 2 and 8 months. She could sleep with us but it's likely to be pretty unsettled for us all - she likes her own space. What's a ready bed Hulababy?
Do you think a mattress on the floor would be a disaster?

Oh, same age as my DD. Shes 2y 8m too - birthday in April.

A ready bed is a blow up bed (smaller than a single bed size) which has a sleeping bag attached to it. Comes in all sorts of character designs. DD has a Barbie one which she loves. Sleeping bag can be washed separately. Whole thing inflates, with its own little foot pump, in about 5 minutes maximum. And when deflated it folds into its only little carry bag.

They are about toddler bed size I reckon. I am 5 foot and can just fit in one Wink

We got ours from Toys R Us (but website doesn't seem to be working) but lots of places sell them.

That looks like the perfect solution - thanks ever so much Hulababy - dd's birthday is the 16th of April, when's your dd's?

My DD's birthday is the 5th.

You finding your little girl is growing up fast then like I am? Can't believe how quickly they go from being babies to proper little girls!

we have brought up dd's cot mattress up with us when we've stayed with inlaws - She thought it was a bit of a novelty to sleep on the floor on her mattress, but ended up with us halfway through the night.
I think those ready beds are a great idea, shall be looking for one in the Jan sales!

logICICLE · 13/12/2004 17:09

Whatever you do, don't let her sleep in your bed! We went away for the weekend just gone and to our horror, ds learned to climb out of the travel cot and we spent both nights sharing a bed with him. We are both knackered and bruised.
We will have to buy some sort of travel sleeping bag/bed too. I think that Letterbox sell them...

walkinginawelshmumwonderland · 16/12/2004 13:49

Sorry for delay in response Hulababy, you're right though she's changing so fast. Latest is her absolute insistence on her outfit for the day - drives me potty. She's so fabulous though sometimes can't believe she's mine - I could boast for hours and hours.

you should definitely get a ready bed - they are magic and children love them! you will have more use for it after christmas for sure!

walkinginawelshmumwonderland - sounds lovely! It's a fab age and so much fun, I agree

There are 2 sizes of travel cot, check which one you have. We live abroad so keep one at home (for emergencies) and one in UK. Have recently had to swap them over as one I was using in UK was too small (DS is 2.3). The bigeer one is almost the same size as a "cot bed" i.e more like 120x60cm or 140x70cm? The bigger one we have is a Gracco Pack & Play. Perhaps you could borrow a bigger one. My gut feeling is that if she is still in a cot at home do everything possible to keep it that way as long as possible!
