Hi,

I am travelling with my 2 children (3 and 7) to Austria and will be staying in Innsbruck. I am looking to visit the Hintertux glacier for a day but not to ski/snowboard (wanted to head to the snow playground mainly). Would you suggest to hire ski clothes to stay warm near the top? Is this even possible and is it pricey? Are normal clothes and shoes sufficient?

I'm thinking I will need extra luggage if I take all the winter coats with me since they are so hefty.

It's making me wonder is it worth all the hassle for 1 day? Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

LAYERS. I started in shorts and t-shirts and then added an extra layer at each cable car station. I recommend taking a Buff - so light weight, takes up next to no space and keeps the wind from whistling around your neck and ears! At Tuxer Fernerhaus stop (one below the top), there was still snow on the ground but it was warm enough to strip back down to shorts, the restaurant at the bottom of the ski slope is a sun trap! Definitely take a waterproof windbreaker and a thick sweater. You’ll need sturdy waterproof shoes. Don’t forget good eyewear and sun block.

Thank you for the information. Is it worth hiring ski jackets and ski trousers for when we get to the top? Or are regular jeans/trousers ok?

Sorry for sounding silly - I'm putting myself in a bit of a panic about luggage space.
