Flying with vertigo. Should I cancel the holiday?

We’re due to fly on holiday next Saturday. Today my husband was diagnosed with vertigo, he’s very dizzy and vomits every time he lifts his head. He’s been prescribed stemetil three times a day.
Has any one any experience of vertigo/stemitil who can advise me please? Is my husband likely to improve quickly enough to go on holiday, or should I accept that we might need to cancel? The nurse practitioner just shrugged when I asked her.

See if he can see physio for epley Epley maneuver, it might do the trick.

My Mum gets vertigo attacks and most last for a good week - I can't imagine her leaving the house during one, let alone going on holiday.

I would contact your insurance company and see if it's covered - I can't imagine it wouldn't be.

Next Saturday as in the 15th or Next Saturday as in the 22nd?

The 15th almost no chance of being well enough

The 22nd a better chance of being well enough - my DM suffers vertigo attacks due to a horrible bout of labyrinthitis, it usually takes her a week with meds to feel able to move, 10 days to feel well enough to get on with normal life, 2 weeks to feel 95%, up to a month to feel 100%

I’d be contacting your insurer to confirm they’ll cover you for cancellation

I got vertigo the morning i was flying home in early june. I honestly wanted to smash my head into something just to knock myself out. We had a really turbulent flight, the queueing was awful as i fell over constantly as i felt like i was spinning, i vomitted for days after. I actually went to a&e after 3 days and they gave me something similar to stemetil (began with p) ive had daily headaches and im scared to move my head at all even a month later. Cancel, he wont enjoy it in that state. It can linger for months the doctors told me ☹️

@WaterBaby9 You poor thing, that sounds horrendous.

Thanks all. You’ve basically confirmed what I was expecting. We fly on the 22nd so I’ll try and find a physio tomorrow but, if he’s no better by Monday/Tuesday I’ll phone the insurance company 😢

Sounds utterly horrendous. Wishing your husband a speedy recovery 💐

I suffer from vertigo occasionally and there's no way I could manage the airport and a flight. I'd be falling all over the place.

It depends I get it and am sometimes better within 24 hours. Sometimes takes a few days. It has never been so severe as that for a week. Usually symptoms reduce so that I’m just a bit dizzy when I move my head. If it’s a first time it might resolve quickly.
BTW you can do the manoeuvre on yourself at home. Just google it. I’ve done it a few times
