Christmas market wise.

We went somewhere in Germany last year and loved it so would like to go again, however I’m aware there’s at least three other really popular places for Christmas markets in Germany outside the major city that we have been to already. Problem is, the city we’ve already been to has the best flight dates and times, cheapest and work around our annual leave which for DH isn’t flexible. Are they all much of a much festivity wise or are we really missing out if we don’t try somewhere new?

It really depends. Is there anything in that particular city you also want to do/see?

I love Christmas markets, I am German and try to go back on a regular basis if work allows, and have been to several outside the ones where family lives. I find that they are good but I also like to explore if I don't know the town itself.

Could you use the city as a basis and take a train for a day to somewhere else?
For example, if you are in Frankfurt, the public transport network is good to go around. Or Nuernberg by train. Or from Munich you can go in 1-2 hours somewhere else for a day.

Same for Hamburg or Berlin. You don't have to be stuck with one town just because it's convenient for flights.

Depends on what you want. Munich markets are traditional and beautiful and you can easily do a day trip to Salzburg. Berlin markets are bigger, there are a lot more of them and they have more trendy "niche" markets (e.g. a Scandinavian market, an eco-market, one on a rooftop, one for dogs, etc). There’s also more in the way of entertainment at Berlin.
