Sydney hotel recommendation

As part of a bigger trip down under will be having 2 day stopover in Sydney.
Can anyone recommend best areas to stay to be able to see the sights quickly and easily? Looking for recommendations of mid range hotels, doesn't need to be fancy as we'll really only be sleeping there. Happy with Holiday Inn, Ibis type standard.

We stayed in the Meriton Suites on Pitt Street which were an easy stroll from everything. They were self-catering, serviced apartments and very clean. This was pre-Covid so a while ago but you could check out recent Trip Advisor reviews.

We stayed at Oaks on Castlereagh. Huge apartment and close to Chinatown and the tram that runs down to Circular Quay.

Should add, this was last October.

Thank you. Will take a look at those

Stayed a fair bit (pre-Covid) at the Novotel on Darling harbour, 30 min or so walk from Opera House/Circular Quay area...there's also a Holiday Inn out in that neck of the woods, near Chinatown...

Maybe a bit more than you want to pay but the Intercontinental near Circular Quay is fabulous. Recently refurbished with wonderful views across the harbour and very convenient for transport and sightseeing.

Thank you I'll have a look at those too. I'm assuming Circular Quay area is the most convenient to stay in to see the main sights?

Hyde Park Inn is self catering but also conveniently located. They provide basics for breakfast: cereal, bread, juice, milk.

Very much so but (from memory) I don't think you'll get much budget accommodation in that part of town.

I think the previously mentioned Intercontinental might be the one on Macquarie street and is only about a 5 min walk to the Quay, the Harbour Marriott is not much further away and there's a Sofitel Sydney Wentworth a bit further up the hill from the Quay on Castlereagh.

It's a while since I've visited Sydney and used any of the hotels so you'd need to look at current reviews.... I obviously have no idea of how they would fit with your planned spend but convenience might be worth paying for.
