The walking holiday

I've liked this idea ever since I heard about the Camino De Santiago in the movie "The Way."

This includes a bunch, such as:
The Pekoe Trail, Sri Lanka
The Island Walk, Prince Edward Island, Canada
The Transcaucasian Trail, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan
The Michinoku Coastal Trail, Japan
The High Road, Massachusetts
The Trans Bhutan Trail, Bhutan
The Walk of Peace, Slovenia and Italy

2023 Is the Year of the Long Walk
The 500-mile Camino de Santiago has inspired a host of new treks in places from Canada to Bhutan that let travelers take the slow route.

The idea of a walking holiday — a long-distance journey on foot, during which you lodge overnight and carry just enough clothing, food and water for each day’s stretch — has long been popular in Europe. But within the last few years, these pilgrimage-style walks have sprung up all over the world.

Have you seen the movie Wild with Reece Witherspoon? She walks the Pacific Crest Trail in USA trying to find herself after a divorce. It’s really good & made me want to stick on some hiking boots!

I would love to do a long distance walking holiday but I would like the ones where they transport your luggage for from stop to stop. I don’t fancy carrying all my stuff with me.

I walked the Camino De Santiago last year across northern Spain for 6 weeks. Best experience of my entire life. Can't recommend enough and can't wait to do something similar again next year. Trouble is there is too much choice of amazing trails to walk!

No, I haven't seen it, but I admit that one thing that appealed to me about "The Way" was the implication of great places to eat along the way! Hiking solo in the wilderness doesn't have the same appeal for me.

This was one of the aspects I loved about the Camino (other than the walking)...the food and wine was cheap and plentiful and the villages and towns were rarely more than 10km apart so plenty of choice of where and when to stop for a snack!

Exactly! I must admit that was what attracted me - the food, not the hiking. And the villages looked so pleasant.
