Solo Holiday for Those Afraid of the Heat

Would love to go abroad somewhere, but I'm on a budget for about £1k all in for 7 or 10 days, but I can't stand the heat. I don't think I can last out till winter when most places in the world will be in winter temps.

Is there anywhere I can go flying either from the Midlands/London for a package deal Bed and Breakfast only (at a stretch SC) or just DIY for a certain hotel and flight? I'm keen to explore local history/landscape/beauty spots etc. not bothered about nice resort/shopping. (Love markets, though). Also, very keen for going to a thermal springs.

I'm not familiar with package hols. as I'm used to travelling to Airbnb across the country, so I am having trouble navigating the holiday sites.

Azores sounds like it fits! It's a mild tropical climate about 22°c all year round, and completely stunning - lots of lakes, volcanic beaches and hills. The centre is small and pretty with good restaurants. For a thermal spa day you really can't beat Poca de Dona Beija, the setting is unreal. Ryanair fly there (Ponta Delgada) but only from Stansted now!

Isn't it quite expensive there? I was in the Algarve once, thinking Azores was on the mainland by the very edge of the country (wanted to see the acclaimed gardens). Travelled 3hrs by bus/train to get there to be told it was an island where flights were the main transport to get there! There wasn't enough money in the budget to buy on impromptu flight.

If you’d rather be in one place:

Karlovy Vary, Czechia (fly to Prague then bus or train)

Bad Ems, Germany (fly to Frankfurt or Düsseldorf then train)

Hévíz, Hungary (fly to Budapest then train)

Budapest (but you might not want a city break)

Vichy, France (fly to Lyon then train, or Eurostar then train)

Ive focussed on the thermal spa part of your wish list!

Went to Czech, Kysty Krumlov and Prague some years ago.

Hamburg - went to Berlin; found it very rough and graffitti everywhere, so was put off Germany.

Hungary - heard it can be racist, again, put off (I'm a POC).

I was toying with N.France, to Brittany to see the pink sands, but family says it's very rural out in France and you'd need to get a car to get around. Is public transport very poor in the rural parts?

You could do a cruise?

@Mmhmmn Not really to my taste as I like the travelling to different places. Thanks.

Gothenburg or Stockholm. They aren't inexpensive cities but you could find budget accommodation, buy food from the supermarket, eat street food from vans etc. Trips out to the archipelagos are lovely. Both are quite chilled, relaxed cities.

I went there about 7 years ago staying in Gothenburg, Stockholm and Visby; had a lovely time. The weather at Easter was a cool 8C, some nights with a bit of snow. Loved the archipelagos after buying an all day ticket visiting all the little islands, and small villages.

@JFDIYOLO looks lovely but expensive, though.
