Ryanair - do prices come back down?

Looked last week, £28 outbound flight but wasn't quite ready to book. Looked again yesterday and it's gone up to £48...wish I'd just made 10 minutes to do it the first time!

Do Ryanair ever bring prices back down or is it likely to just keep increasing? Flight isn't for another 10 weeks. Have tried checking with an incognito browser, no difference.

I know they might not even be the cheapest option by the time you add all the extra charges but they fly from the most convenient airport for me at the most convenient time.

(I did also have a thread in chat but only got one person replying!)

They sometimes have a sale, but I'm not sure they always include all of their flights. I think you're better to get on with it (as you've already discovered!).

No I don’t think prices come down. They have x amount of seats at certain prices and then they increase as the cheaper seats are sold.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/07/2023 16:35

These days I am finding the prices stay high, but that might just be the Dublin-London route, because they have reduced the number of flights and now they tend to fill up fast.

Airlines work with bucket pricing.

So many seats at price A, once they are sold they move up to price B, then on to C etc.

You may get lucky and they put a sale on, but outside of that the price will only go up. Personally, I would buy now rather than than risk it - but you can set email alert on Skyscanner to alert you when the prices come down.

And the incognito thing makes absolutely no difference - https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/travel/flight-price-hacks-debunked-browsing-incognito-clearing-cookies-2171220

Experts debunk flight ticket price 'hacks' and offer common tips for cheap fares

The internet is full of advice for how to find the cheapest flights, but not all of it is beneficial

The earlier that you book

You will find the cheapest prices

The prices will keep going up

Ryanair operate dynamic pricing, prices are set at any moment according to demand for that flight. If they haven't sold as many seats as they think they should have done by a given point, yes, they can and do go down again.

Around six weeks before the flight is a good time to check, but obviously this will be affected by the present peak demand, flights are popular right now.

Ignore the 'X number of seats left at this price' - it doesn't mean that once they are gone, the price goes up. It can equally come down. Ryanair's pricing strategy (like so many things these days) is based on complex algorithms that can appear to make no sense yet apparently do, all to do with seats sold to that point, expected sales based on averages for that flight etc.
I booked some tickets after they jumped £15 overnight only to find they had come down by £5 two days later, despite an 'only 4 seats left at this price' notice.
Their pricing strategy is generally used by other airlines and hotel booking websites as well.
The only bit that is questionable in terms of fairness is the 'only x seats left' notice, which implies to most people that they must book quickly or pay more, putting them under pressure to make a purchase. It's totally misleading and I'm not sure how they are allowed to get away with that.

Oblomov23 · 18/11/2023 08:54

Basically no. Other people have clearly booked, thus the price has now gone up. Supply and demand. Won't come back down.

FoodieToo · 18/11/2023 14:14

Yes they very often come back down . We are very frequent flyers and use RA all the time as we live in Dublin. I also flight watch !!!

It depends on the route also and shorter routes much more likely to come down again .
