Car seat Shared transfer with EasyJet?

Hi travelling to Lanzarote later on this year. We will be going with our 1 year old son at the time. Just looking for some advice on car seats as it's our first time travelling abroad with him... We have the free shared transfer from airport to hotel which is approximately 1 hour. I contacted them to advise on whether a car seat can be provided for this as we aren't too comfortable having him on our lap as it's just too risky! They advised that only on a private transfer you could have this option and you would have to pay separately for this. Just for the transfer they were asking for £160 and then the seat on top which is god knows what? I looked online and can hire a car with car seat for whole 7 days for £130. Can I get peoples opinions please as I'm unsure as I don't know what it's like to drive in Lanzarote and is it worth it doing that or just putting him on lap on coach and saving money?

Hire a car, so much cheaper. The roads are amazing, much better than the UK.

I just been on the website and missed the excess of €500, I can get super coverage so I don't have to pay this which takes the tally up to £190 vs £160+ the additional fee of the car seat with private transfer. What are the roads like over there and is it a nice drive around Lanzarote? Rather explore with the wee man then be stuck and have to pay taxis

If the shared transfer is a coach then essentially the whole coach body provides the protection a car seat does.

I spoke to EasyJet and they informed me they can't guarantee what the transfer will be... it could be a coach or it could be a horse drawn carriage for all I know Grin all they said is refer back to the terms and conditions!

Looked at other hire companies and found one called autoreisen who appear to be the cheapest so will go with them. Any reviews?

I took my son aged 6 months both ways by coach transfer on a ski holiday in the mountains. Never occurred to me that it was a safety risk to be honest. But if it worries you the car hire option is definitely much better value than the private transfer. You’d want to make sure the car has air con though, otherwise it might not be very pleasant for you and your son to spend much time in.

Also, beware, he might get car sick and you’ll find yourself cleaning baby vomit out of the crevices of a hired car seat with your toothbrush (ask me how I know…).

You could take a car seat with you on the plane if you wanted. Also, have you priced up a taxi? It might be cheaper, although possibly not if it is an hour each way.

We booked a private transfer in Menorca. We booked it ourselves rather than through the tour operator. On the way it was a minibus. On the way back they sent a coach for the 4 of us!

I've always just taken small ones on a coach with no car seat to be honest, I think most people do this.

poodlepuppy · 29/06/2023 20:22

Most people carry on their laps.

Are you thinking of having baby in a car seat on the plane and on the coach?

DustyLee123 · 29/06/2023 21:31

Yea, we’ve used Autoreisen. No problems with them. We always hire a car now.

Clymene · 29/06/2023 21:36

Autoreisen are fine. If you want to hire, take out excess car hire insurance in the U.K. and check what parking is like in your hotel/local roads.
