Why have plane tickets double in price for 2024

Looking for flights for European destinations in May half term but the prices have double up. I understand it has to do with inflation but can Simon explain this to me better please? It is the flights from UK that are extortionate not the returns.

It's probably no bad thing if prices go up, stop people using planes like buses. I say that as someone whose number one passion is travel but recognise that we just can't go on like this 😞

I think they’ll be a massive rise in the number of children having term-time holidays, as now surely the cost of a fine is negligible compared to how much you can save by travelling off peak.

Agree but this will eventually reduce the number of flights which will increase costs even further. There is not perfect solution ñ
