Help me decide honeymoon length!

Basically that. Prices are much better to do 5 nights. Initially we wanted 7 so don’t want to be doing ourselves short, but it’s £1300 more to do 7 nights than 5!

7 night holiday, flight out is at 6pm and return flight is 8am

5 night holiday, flight out is 7am and return flight is 10pm

So we would be gaining an extra day anyway as flight times would be better for 5 nights than 7.

I was thinking we could do 5 nights in our honeymoon destination (Greece) and spend the rest of the money on a lovely city break. I am a homebody but don’t want to feel like we’ve cut ourselves short on what will hopefully be the most special trip!

What would you do? Thank you :-)

I was going to say 2 weeks minimum! Five nights is nothing- you won't relax proper until day 2 or 3 then it will be time to come home again.

Notimeforaname · 25/06/2023 16:24

What about another greek island close by? Or are you on the mainland?

Makes much more sense to do the 5 nights and then a stop somewhere else for a few nights.

Also, as pp said, 5 nights would not be enough time for me but crazy to spend 1300 for 1.5 days extra.

Personally i think I would go for the 7 nights but thats because I hate late flights on departure day. On the 7 nights trip you'll arrive very late but will be up and ready to go on the first day, and you get to fully enjoy your last day with a nice morning flight time home.
On the 5 night you'll loose at least half of day 1 .... and have to hang around on your last day waiting to go to the airport ( my pet hate) ... so on balance I would go 7 nights.
Congratulations by the way 😊😊

Making memories costs more and is worth more than any money in the world you will only get to do this once so splash the cash I would if I had it who cares?!

cocksstrideintheevening · 25/06/2023 16:48

I wouldn't do 5.

Mumtumtastic · 25/06/2023 16:51

I would book as long as possible - 2 weeks+ if you can!

Weddings are hard work and you’ll be glad of a good break after! If it’s cost that prohibits a longer honeymoon have you thought about asking for monetary gifts towards your honeymoon to help fund a longer trip, instead of traditional wedding gifts? (ie cookware and stuff you prob already have…)
We did this and was so much better to enjoy an amazing honeymoon and have all the memories still with us rather than have loads of punch bowls, toast racks and silver spoons gathering dust! 😄 x

I think you want 2 weeks minimum if you can - can you look again?

FettleOfKish · 25/06/2023 16:59

We did 7 nights (with great flight times giving us nearly 8 full days) only because we were going to another wedding after our own that we wanted to get back for. Otherwise 10 nights would have been a minimum. After the run up to the wedding we were only really truly relaxing toward the end of the week.

We honeymooned in June and Mauritius was much much better value than Europe for the luxury that we wanted for a special trip.

Personally I would do the 5 day because of the better travel times - but I'm thinking of a normal holiday not a honeymoon. I think a honeymoon is one time when you need to decide between yourself and your partner rather than what others would choose . If you don't like being away from home a long time - then don't do 2 weeks because someone else on the internet thinks that's what a honeymoon should be. OTOH if your partner prefers a longer time away, that's when you need to compromise.

Thank you! This is great advice.

I’ve been on many amazing 5 night holidays, I d go for that option because of the flight times. You could spend some of the money you’d saved by not booking seven nights on really good excursions or spa treatments etc.

We did a week. but that was due to DH starting a new job shortly afterwards.

5 days is really short when you have a 4 hour flight plus the time difference. We flew to Rhodes last year and it was afternoon by the time we finally made it to the hotel despite a 7.30am flight.

For 5 days I would stay closer to the Uk, a luxery city break would give you more time.
