Travel insurance to cover cutting short

I need to get travel insurance that will cover if we need to cut a holiday short. Parents aren't in great health and have no other family to look after them if something happens. My dad is stubborn and does things he shouldn't so I worry he'll do something and accidentally injure himself and he looks after mum.

My anxiety has me worried we'll need to cut our trip short so I want insurance that will cover as we have paid ALOT for our first family holiday, and that is mainly due to Dd allergies and ensuring we are at an appropriate resort that can cater.

Can anyone advise who to go with? We have booked with Jet2, who do their own insurance.

From experience it needs to be a direct relative ie mum, dad, brother sister etc and most only cover the cost for the person that's related to the deceased.

Or confirmed seriously ill.

You’ll never get insurance for this type of thing. If you’re that anxious then you’d be better to just go on holiday in the U.K. so you can easily cut your holiday short.

Or arrange for another family member to be on standby so you can properly relax and enjoy your holiday.

Every policy I've ever had covers cancellation or return if a close family member dies or is hospitalised.

Not sure it would cover all of you returning though. Would the other parent stay on holiday if the other had to come home?

If thi gs are that dire for your parents, is it time to get extra support for them both anyway?

Cover may depend if the curtailment is due to a preexisting condition.

Is it because they could be ill, of because your stubborn dad could cause an accident?
Does he have capacity to understand he could ruin your holiday if so?

Thanks all. @NewIdeasToday there are no other family. They are only children so I have no one. DH family in different country. There are carers x4 day for my mum but that only covers bathroom trips.

After reading, Jet 2 policy covers cutting trip short and under this includes accident, illness or disease of close relative ( parents included) as a reason so I think this is the best we will get and just have to take the risk. As much as I love the UK we have waited since before covid to travel abroad due to covid/pregnancy/delay in babies passport so I'll just have to get over it.

Yes but does this cover flying you all back or just one of you?

ohgeezlouise · 20/06/2023 15:39

@tweener need to read the rest of policy tbh if something did occur that was bad enough to travel back then we would just cover the cost of flights for the other two if it wasn't. I'll have a look at a few other companies.

I doubt this is insurable, if it's that likely it counts as a preexisting condition and they won't cover that. Depends really on where you are going, for European resorts just you fly home on the cheapest flight and the family stay there until the holiday ends

LIZS · 20/06/2023 15:46

And you would pay the excess for each person if you claimed which may be more than flights.

Doggymummar · 20/06/2023 15:49

Most good policies include curtailment. I was a TRAVEL agent for over 10 years. American express used to be the best but I'm sure Martin Lewis will have more up-to-date information on his site. read the small print to make sure you get what you need.

ohgeezlouise · 21/06/2023 00:02

@Doggymummar thank you I will. This is worst case scenario and doesn't involve pre existing health conditions. It's IF something happens to my dad who cares for my mum and we need to come back.

Why not check with agencies who already visit? Check with adult social care?

ohgeezlouise · 21/06/2023 01:13

Already checked. At max visits.
