Is there anything special I need to remember when choosing my travel insurance, for a cruise??

DH is very careful about insurance,I think for our upcoming cruise his only concern beyond usual was sufficient cover for helicopter evacuation if seriously ill.

You need it listed as covered as cruises are an exclusion/ addition

Make sure it has cruise cover included.

some policies will cover if you have a missed port (because the ship can’t dock)

gogohmm · 20/06/2023 08:35

It must include cruise cover and any destinations you are visiting so if you are on a med cruise but it calls in Morocco for instance there could be an issue if it's Europe only. Ensure it is of high enough value to cover cancellation, include mid departures too. Double check preexisting conditions.

Our bank covers us as standard so it doesn't have to be expensive, just do your homework

The cruise company will probably want to make sure you're covered for a certain amount for emergency meds and being taken off the ship if needed. I work for travel insurance and this is something a lot of customers ask. I think most cruise companies want to make sure you have at least £2million in emergency meds cover and also covid cover. Do you have any bank accounts with insurance included?

Mindymomo · 20/06/2023 08:39

Depends on the cruise company. I know P&O specifies cruise covers must have £2 million repatriation cover. Most still cover covid and most will offer additional cover for missed ports, usually around £50 extra. We’ve never taken missed ports insurance, but you only need one missed port and you usually get £100 back, so maybe worth thinking about.

Thank you!

Buy special cruise insurance instead of normal insurance. The "risks" are very different. Cruise insurance usually covers the extra risks such as missed ports, unused excursions, cabin confinement, etc.
