Tips for what to take Eurocamp/mobile home holdays

I admit this thread is fuelled by an itch to buy some kind of gadget/item that I probably don't really need, but ... If you are an experienced mobile home holiday maker, what are you tip tips of things to take with you that make life in a glorified caravan easier? We're driving if that makes a difference.

My tip (which applies to all holidays to be honest) is to take fold up laundry baskets like this.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/WARESHARK-Laundry-Washing-Foldable-Storage/dp/B09FYJN4CF/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?adgrpid=154239642168&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7aqkBhDPARIsAKGa0oKqxyePl1UA6_--gQgxSNiyQq-Ul0MkqJVzN-le6RLWiykcXh-PeQQaAp6DEALw_wcB&hvadid=656866411896&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=1006742&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=16413924152017426084&hvtargid=kwd-378314611348&hydadcr=26162_2651754&keywords=mesh%20laundry%20basket%20pop%20up&qid=1686855229&sr=8-4&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-holidays-4828385-tips-for-what-to-take-eurocampmobile-home-holdays

Nesting food containers like these for packed lunches and leftovers www.amazon.co.uk/Joseph-Nest-5-Piece-Storage-Container/dp/B07FM7W3RK/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=nesting+food+storage+containers&qid=1686856260&sr=8-5
Ice cube tray
Shopping bags if you’re going to do a food shop
Bin liners
Extension lead www.amazon.co.uk/Mscien-Extension-Switches-Universal-Protection/dp/B0C1GM11CK/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=euro+extension+lead&qid=1686856453&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1 if you only have one or two European travel adapters

planthelpadvice · 15/06/2023 20:19

Love the idea of an extension lead - genius!

I'll add tea towels to my list actually, they don't always provide them.

Bath mat. Decathlon do a good pack-away one. The bathroom floor is always slippery when it gets wet when you come out of the shower.

planthelpadvice · 15/06/2023 20:59

Oh yes agree about bath mats @BareBelliedSneetch.

I can't think of anything gadgety. I'd pack a tea towel as you don't usually get one. The ones we have stayed in have been pretty well appointed.

HidingUnderMyDuvet · 15/06/2023 21:23

USB rechargeable fans! I got two mini clip on ones before our last summer motor home trip. Best thing I ever did!

yoshiblue · 15/06/2023 21:35

We've just come back from one...

Corkscrew
Decent chopping board and cooks knife
J cloth and scourer
Dishwasher tablets (if you have one)

Check the situation re: launderette on site. Ours dispensed powder otherwise take a few washing tablets to use rather than having to buy a full box.

MsJuniper · 15/06/2023 21:42

When we went to France they only had steak knives which wasn't ideal for the children. We ended up buying a butter knife.

fiorentina · 15/06/2023 21:47

Bath mat, hand towel, insect repellent, citronella candles for outside, adaptor with extension/multi socket plugged in, dishwasher tabs/washing powder, cleaning products. I also take small salt/pepper, oil etc for cooking.
I don’t take many gadgets but we usually take a portable blue tooth speaker.
A euro/pound coin for the shopping trolley, and reusable bags.

cocksstrideintheevening · 15/06/2023 22:00

Knives and a chopping board. I can't bear shit knives in a glass board.

Porthia · 15/06/2023 22:05

Loving all these tips! We went to Eurocamp last summer and will do again this summer.

My best tip was to buy light cotton sleeping bag liners because Eurocamp charge extra for sheets and pillowcases. It’s especially worth doing if you go to more than one site - it gets expensive to order all the sheets at each place!

This is the kind of thing we take - enough for one per person and if needed they are light enough to wash and hang out in the sun and be dry by the night (DS wet the bed a few times last year)

flyhome · 15/06/2023 22:15

A decent sharp knife and a good tin opener!

Motherhubbardscupboard · 15/06/2023 22:19

One of those mosquito zapping tennis racket things. Or just some fly spray

planthelpadvice · 15/06/2023 22:25

Oh these are all excellent - thank you! Agree about the glass chopping boards!

Cafetiere. It's always a filter that's provided which is hopeless for making good coffee (and you have to hunt down filter papers in a supermarket).

OchonAgusOchonOh · 15/06/2023 22:34

Clothes pegs. Even if you don't do any laundry you'll still need to hang out swimming togs and towels.

BinkyBeaufort · 15/06/2023 22:44

Decent sized mugs.

WeWereInParis · 15/06/2023 22:52

Tea towels
Dish soap
Rubber gloves
Sharp knife
Pegs
I agree about taking sleeping bags
Tin opener
Corkscrew
Toilet paper
Hand soap
Bin bags

My extra tip as someone who worked a summer for Eurocamp - wash the kitchen stuff before you use it.
Also, if you're short of something (or just find it useful to have more eg a couple of extra tumblers rather than using the wine glasses) just ask. On the bigger sites there'll be a whole tent full of spares somewhere.

100% agree. I never worked for keycamp or similar but did work as a chamber aid at a similar age.

My hygiene standards were not terribly high...

mrswarthog · 15/06/2023 22:59

Kitchen, knife sharpener, chopping board, freezer bags, ice cube bags and kitchen spray. Bathroom, cleaning cloth, bathmat & loo roll.
Extension lead, lighter for candles, bottle opener/corkscrew, torch, plugin bug killer.

Turmerictolly · 15/06/2023 23:04

Earplugs

Agoodidea · 15/06/2023 23:05

We loved these holidays when our DC were little and I used to pack a play sized dustpan and brush so they could help with the fairly constant sweeping!
Have a wonderful time.

foodtoorder · 15/06/2023 23:11

Shower mat
Outdoor games for kids (buys some chill time) we took those Velcro ball/mit game
Decent pillows
Washing up liquid
Anti bac spray or wipes
Sponge/cloth
Tea towel
A bit of cooking oil
Any small condiments you can take
A pasta/ pasta sauce (for a quick meal just incase)
Some cereals
Food bags/cling film/food clips.
Hand wash/soap
Extension lead
Kitchen towel
Toilet roll

Agoodidea · 15/06/2023 23:12

Other practical advice, take your preferred knife and anti-bac wipes for the kitchen area and shower/toilet. ( obviously bin don’t flush)
and as others have said, tea towels and maybe an old towel you can use as a bath mat or door mat that you can bin if you don’t want to bring it home.

determinedtomakethiswork · 16/06/2023 00:18

I used to love those holidays. What I found most useful were plug in mosquito repellent which had a tablet inside them. When you plug them in then the tablet warms up and the smell kills mosquitoes. I always got bitten to bits on holiday so these are a lifesaver.
