Is Menorca boring?

Waferbiscuit · 14/06/2023 18:53

Booked for Menorca next month as wanted a villa by the beach and couldn't find one in Mallorca.

Now all I read about it is that it's for nature lovers and is relaxing so v worried my 10 and 17 yr olds will be dead bored.

Would love thoughts of those who have been. Staying in Binibeca rather than the west coast.

We liked Menorca, depending on what you mean by boring?

The beaches are lovely and is great for families. We rented a car as we like to explore and see the Island. We went twice and visited different beaches and towns. It is very easy to drive, some of the calas can be very busy.

i’m just back with a 15 and 17 year old. We loved it. Nowhere too far to get to. We loved all the prehistoric archaeology…the labyrinth…scuba diving at Cala Blanca…

Waferbiscuit · 14/06/2023 19:18

Thanks @Parrish and @Thinkerbell78 -good to know there's enough to explore! I like the size of the island - feels like it will be easy to get around.

It's not boring but I wouldn't go there on a hen do!

ThePoshUns · 14/06/2023 19:34

Not boring at all.
Lots of water sports.
Mahon is interesting with boat tours
Cuitadella is nice for a wander.
There are water parks.
We went 3 times as a family.

Dillydollydingdong · 14/06/2023 19:46

My D's is there ATM with his family. They've been before so it must be good. They're staying in a hotel though, with swimming pool, activities and food included. They've been on the beach, swimming, scuba, banana boats etc. And the weather's lovely.

Jenniferturkington · 14/06/2023 19:49

It’s perfectly pleasant. But quite boring imo! We went with 2 under 3 and it was very ‘easy’.

Been to Binnibeca a couple of times, there is a great beach and beach bar easily spend a day there. A little road train to punta prima where there is a bigger beach and souvenir shops, more restaurants / bars

The little square in binnibeca has some nice restaurants and supermarket etc

Going into town and the harbour is easy

Didn't do any day trips as such but certainly had a lovely family holiday

Crikeyalmighty · 14/06/2023 20:01

Attractive and perfectly pleasant

zurala · 14/06/2023 20:05

We've been three times with young children and there's loads to do but you need a car. Binibeca is a bit quiet but Ciutadella and Punta Prima are worth checking out and there's a nice zoo in the centre of the island (or there was). There's also a Pretty Ballerinas outlet shop in Ferreries.

LegendsBeyond · 14/06/2023 20:14

It’s a bit dull, but it depends what you want. Your 17 year old may find it boring.

hohum12345 · 15/06/2023 17:54

Have started a thread of my own but am thinking of taking DD (15) to Menorca.
Any recommendations on hotels/resorts? Nothing too big/lively but in walk of nice restaurants and harbours etc Wink

FloofCloud · 15/06/2023 18:26

I'm going with my autistic child soon, does anyone know if the airport has a quiet room?
Also is it a very small quiet airport? Assuming it is but you never know!

Roselilly36 · 15/06/2023 18:31

I didn’t like Menorca, but we went at the end of Aug, absolutely boiling hot. Apartment full of ants, no breeze, despite being on the beach, wouldn’t ever return.

dontcallmelen · 15/06/2023 18:46

I’ve never found it boring it’s not a party island though, yy punta Prima easy to get to from binibeca as is Mahon, beautiful beaches all around the island driving straightforward the roads are good.
we usually stay in Punta Prima, sorry @FloofCloud i can’t remember if it has a quiet room but it’s not a big airport.

If drunken Brits, stags and hens and people stuffing themselves on the All Inclusive buffet is what you're after, then Menorca isn't for you.

If you want lovely beaches, nice places to visit, nice friendly people then it's perfect.

I first went with my parents at 16 and loved it. Because they'd seen how lovely and safe it was, I was allowed to go with my friend on our own the following year. I've been back with DD since then when she was 15.

Cellotapedispenser · 15/06/2023 18:49

I absolutely love menorca. Been many times. Punta prima is perfect, bars restaurants and beach. Water park and everything is an easy drive away. We've done all inclusive and villas. Admittedly my dc were pre teen so happy with days with pool and beach, then movies or tablets or video games in the evenings. We like very lazy holidays though.

Popsicle30 · 15/06/2023 18:58

We’ve just got back from a villa holiday in Binibeca/Cala Torret. It was nice. It is quieter than what we’re used to in Mallorca but this wasn’t a bad thing. I’d recommend hiring a car though as you’ll want to explore further and it’s not easy to get around the island without a car. There is a bus to Mahon which goes every two hours, this was easy to get a comfortable 25 minute journey. There’s a land train from Binibeca to Punta Prima although we never managed to time it right (it seems to run on its own schedule at times). We hadn’t hired a car as we technically didn’t need it but in hindsight we wish we had as it got a bit samey after 10 days. Beach was ok (I’m not a big beach fan) but the bar mentioned above is no longer open on the beach. Some nice restaurants in Cala Torret which is a short walk from Binibeca.

Popsicle30 · 15/06/2023 19:00

Menorca did feel very safe and was a lovely environment to explore

countdowntonap · 15/06/2023 21:12

I can’t believe how many people book holidays without doing the research first.
Highlights of things to do in Binibeca are to explore the pretty village, go on the beach and swim in the sea https://www.alongdustyroads.com/posts/binibeca-menorca

None of that screams excitement for 10 and 17 year olds.
I personally love Menorca; there are some stunning hotels in Mahon which has a lovely buzz in the evening. It’s also a great island to explore by car even if you’ve not driven abroad before.

The number of people dismissing a whole island due to their experience in one resort is surprising. Surely you must know that there is more to
the island than your (poorly chosen?) hotel.
