Paris Olympics accommodation?

What are others doing? Just had a look in booking.com and Airbnb and eeek at the cost! I’d like to be central so we can walk as much as possible and soak up the Paris atmosphere. We’ll have our three older teens with us and they’ve never been to Paris.

That looks cool thanks! I think
we may prefer to be in the city as we have tickets each day (although some are evening) but I’ll check it out properly and have a think.

I struggled with this too. Shortlisted 3 on vrbo in Paris and booked one only to have the booking rejected the next day. I guess they are trying to cash in on the Olympics. Nearly gave up on the whole trip especially when my ticketing choices in the second ticket ballot were severely limited. However was able to book my second choice accommodation and bought smaller numbers of x2 ( very pricey) Olympic tickets. This trip was to coincide with my big birthday. Bit concerned Paris may be very hot and uncomfortable, anyhow hoping to enjoy and make memories.

I think you just need to accept that they are the prices due to supply and demand.

My tickets are for Lille (basketball) and I'm just going to wait until nearer the time to book something. It is a risk but tbh airbnbs can cancel on you last minute anyway so ...

redfacebigdisgrace · 11/06/2023 17:25

I’m going to try and get somewhere that has a lot of reviews, that way they’re less likely to cancel and mess up their rating/business with Airbnb.

I wondered how people are getting on. We're struggling to find anywhere which is taking bookings. Found a B&B last night for €750 for 4 nights for 4 of us and the quote came back today for €4620. I'm starting to think we're cancelling. I hasten to add it wasn't that central either - about an hour to both Versailles and Stade de France which we have our tickets for.

When are you going @SStarlet ?

7-11 August. The place we found for originally £750 looked good, so maybe one for when it's not the Olympics!
We've found a family room in an Ibis now, which works with our budget, just crazy that a £750 room went up to 6 times the price. I'm all for people making the most of the situation and taking some extra, but that seemed a bit much!

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/08/2023 10:16

Some friends of mine are staying in an Ibis near the PSG stadium - 1,400 Euros for five days. Paris hotel prices are pretty eeksome at the best of times but I thought that was really high.

caringcarer · 13/08/2023 10:42

The trains are good in France. Could you book outside the city and get a train in to Paris each day?

redfacebigdisgrace · 14/08/2023 12:00

We’ve just ended up paying mega bucks for a city centre hotel. £1k per night for 2 rooms. Pretty basic hotel. Crazy. Only a few night luckily.

I own an apartment in Paris and I am struggling to rent it during the Olympics!
I have contacted many people, either intermediaries or potentiel tenants but no one seemed to be interested. The former because they are only interested by luxury apartments, the latter because they are afraid I would cancel the booking.
My apartment, close to the Arc de Triomphe, is 120 sqm with 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 living room and 1 dining room.
I am reliable and not greedy.
Do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested!

I am renting out an apartment for the Olympics by the seine. Big enough for a 2-4 people (or a small family) and close to Notre Dame.

samarrange · 16/03/2024 20:35

Paris during the Olympics will be rubbish. There will be armed police and soldiers everywhere, on every train, on every street corner. You might find this reassuring, but many people will find it deeply uncomfortable.

50% of Parisians go away for August anyway. This year it will probably be 80%, not least because they will be able to rent out their apartments for big bucks. The cafes will be charging €20 for a croque monsieur and €7 for an espresso.

It will cost you a fortune, and your teens will come away with the feeling that Paris is the Worst City In The World and may never want to go back. Please, do yourself a favour and go at literally any other time.

I mean everyone said that about the London Olympics and it turned out to be great.

I am going the same days and I haven't found accomodation yet, any advice? Got tickets for Atlethics and football so not very close venues.

I have used https://hotellook.tp.st/3lYzJHDL a few times now and every time I can find the best deal around. Always a better deal than the more famous websited. Strongly reccomend it.

The prices are nuts, we weren't going at all, but my husband is Australian and a big NBA fan so I decided we should take the kids to Lille to watch Australia in the basketball for a long weekend, and bought the 50 euro tickets when they did the April ticket release. Whilst the 3 nights in Lille is cheaper than Paris, it is still costing just over £800. Subsequently I decided it would be good to see another event
so we are going by TGV to Chessy, got a cheap hotel in Torcy where the Olympic canoeing and rowing is being held. The hotel is about £200 a night (quadruple room), and it's near the station and only 37 mins into Paris. We're not doing any events in Paris, mostly because the events with tickets left now are all very expensive, but I think it would be commutable. We are just going to watch the canoeing for a couple of days, hopefully see a medal for Team GB. My issue now is I've booked an early morning Eurostar out of Lille to get home, but I can't find anywhere to stay in Lille the night before our train that is not £600 for a night, as there is nowhere central we can all fit in one room. I think I am going to have to change my Eurostar booking. Hope you find something that works for you.

People said this about London too, so I did not try as hard as I could have done to take my children into London to experience the atmosphere. By the time I was dragged in by another friend and realised it was epic, it was too late to take my kids in, and I regret it. I went to Rio 4 years later on a work trip and people were saying the crowds were poor and security was rubbish and there’d be no atmosphere and I’d get stabbed or robbed, but instead I cheered on 6 British gold medalists, got to meet them all, and partied with a whole bunch more medalists. Rio was awesome, the atmosphere was carnival-like. My DD was desperate by this time for me to get the Tokyo work trip and take her, but covid complicated that.

I have tickets in Paris for the same sport I saw in Rio, and am conflicted. I have too many other things on to know I will fully enjoy it, but want to take my kids for the experience. I’d planned to camp.
