Sant Agnello, Sorrento - tips for trips to Vesuvius, Pompei and Naples?

Afternoon lovely lot

Just that really ... staying in July with DD (14) and DH and looking at a few day trips so wondering if anyone has tips on the above. So, is it doable by train, best way to book tickets, tips when we're they're, that kind of thing.

I know Herculeum is a popular alternative to Pompei too.

Naples is a bit marmite too and we've never been so ideas on that would be good too.

I'm desperate to do Vesuvius (DD less so!) so wondering if we need to book through a local company or can we do it ourselves?

Thanks all Grin

We did a big tour by train of Italy last summer. We spent 6 days on Ischia chilling and it's a beautiful island. If I was visiting for a day, I'd either go to Mortella Gardens https://www.lamortella.org/ (which I wasn't expecting to enjoy even half as much as I did, but its magical) or I'd avail myself of one of the thermal parks (expensive, but so worth it) - Poseidon and Negombo are both brilliant. All of the above are reachable if you got the ferry from Forio, though not sure about ferry timings. We found the bus service pretty good around the island.
We had a night in Naples afterwards (edgy, very edgy but we did stay right in the centre), in order to visit Herculaneum, which you shouldn't miss!

Oh that's weird, ours is the Pompei and Vesuvius select tour with lunch - £88 per person, local pick up.

I would second going to the Mortellla Gardens on Ischia. Absolutely gorgeous.
